Life has gotten a little crazy for this FCS Educator since June, slowly but surely I am getting caught up from being out quite a bit this summer for medical procedures! I want to say thank you, to all those that have stepped up and helped during my absence or helped me when I returned. I had OHCE ladies volunteer to do leader lessons for me, and the gals in the office have been amazing help! I appreciate them all so much! I am sad I had to miss out on 4-H Roundup and State OHCE convention this year but there is always next year!
Now, let’s talk about programs I have hosted this summer! Youth Jelly making back in June was a lot of fun, we learned safety and about water bath canning process, then we made Jelly, each youth got the take home two jars of jelly they helped make! Fast forward to class 2 of 3 for our beginner sewing class. Class #2 we had 11 people attend! Next, a Dream catcher workshop. This was going to be held for OHCE members as it was one of the choices for fair project, but due to so much interest we opened it up and had a youth and an adult session with about 17 participants total! We learned about the history and symbolic meanings of the dream catcher, many discovered they were more difficult to make than they thought they would be, but in the end they turned out great! Our office hosted a salsa contest at our Farmers Market and we had some great competition that showed up!
We are two weeks into our Med instead of Meds series, we spend half the class learning about eating the Med way and then we step into the kitchen and whip up some healthy recipes to put what we learned into practice! I am absolutely loving this class! Stay tuned, we have some new programs starting this fall!
