Tuesday evening became a night of education, preparedness and community. Local businesses, organizations and management teams came together to showcase the importance of preventing and preparing for any kind of emergency. 🌩️⚠️🚨

With booths lining every wall of the Texas County Activity Center, over 75 attendees were able to discuss how to prevent and prepare for emergencies with demonstrations such as rollover simulations hosted by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, fire extinguisher demonstrations, emergency vehicles and equipment, weather utility, and family safety and preparedness resources for all ages provided by Tri-County Electric Cooperative, Inc. NWS- Amarillo, ODOT, the Oklahoma Geological Society and many more!

Professional Storm Chaser and Multimedia Journalist Jordan Hall spoke about severe weather, storm safety and preparedness. He also showcased videos from his experiences chasing storms around the nation. Additionally, Apollo Med Flight flew in and allowed the community to tour their life-saving helicopter, while educating their community on their resources.

We’d like to thank Big West- COJO for donating a first aid kit, Walmart for donating numerous flashlights, ponchos, hand sanitizers, battery charges and first aid kits, Texas County Emergency Management for the personal travel survival kit, PTCI for the hot dog feed, Golden Mesa Casino for providing water bottles for the community and the Guymon Chamber of Commerce, City of Guymon, Guymon Convention and Tourism, Texas County Emergency Management and the Texas County Fair Board for being community partners on this event!

2026 Citizen of the Year Nominations Now Open!

Each year the City of Guymon honors one person who has made an impact on our community over the years with outstanding dedication and citizenry. Guymon City Council asks for the residents of Guymon to nominate someone they feel deserves this prestigious award. The recipient is awarded a plaque by the Mayor of Guymon during the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet.

In addition, the winner receives $500 from the F. Hiner Dale Award Fund to donate to the non-profit organization of his or her choice. This fund was started by the Dale family to recognize and award one person each year for their outstanding dedication and service to the Guymon community.
