🚨🚨UPDATE FOR ROAD CLOSURE ON NE 12TH ST🚨🚨

NE 12th Street at the Railroad tracks going in both directions will be closed at a minimum till 5pm Friday afternoon, June 12, 2026 due to repairs caused by a vehicle crash into the crossing arms that occurred on Tuesday 6/9/2026. The entire crossing arm assembly is having to be replaced. ODOT has placed barricades at Hwy 54 west bound on NE 12th and barricades at NE 12th & N East St which will remain in place. Union Pacific has also placed large concrete barriers on each side of the tracks on NE 12th street to further protect vehicles from crossing tracks. This is considered a dangerous uncontrolled crossing during the repairs. Regular train traffic will continue.

So please plan your routes for daily travel accordingly until they are able to complete the necessary repairs and continue to avoid this area.

Thank you!

Great tip from our sometimes acquaintances over at THE Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

County road systems around here are laid out in a grid pattern. That includes Texas, Kansas and Colorado and the roads are labeled sequentially. Each county does vary in what direction that order goes or the system.

Some counties use the PLSS system. Texas County uses the alphabet and Mile numbers for our roads.

Knowing where you are can help us respond faster. Although cell phone technology has advanced in the last couple of decades, it’s still not foolproof and it may ping in a bad location.

If you feel the need to stop and yell at a state trooper for having their high beams on when they are not, the outside lane of travel is not a legal parking space for your big rig.

From the badge to the ball field. Chief McDowell and Officer Vinson along with their wives, Kambrie and Raven, are coaching this season’s Rotary Club softball team, showing our kids that their police department is here for more than calls. We’re here to support, encourage, and be part of the community we love.

Nice little storm way up north this evening.

Quick Ted Talk time.

We receive anywhere from 1-442 911 calls per day. Many of these calls are “unknown” and those require a physical response.

Sometimes we get cancelled while responding, a lot of times we find nothing and sometimes we contact someone and it was just an accidental dial.

We understand accidental dials with these new fangled phones. Depressing a couple buttons triggers an automatic 911 dial.

There is no shame in this happening. If the communication center calls after you realize what happened, please answer the phone.

For us, responding to one of these calls requires long scenic drives through the country and with gas at $4, that bill adds up quick.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk today and enjoy the much needed moisture.🌈☔️🌦️
