Hatch Cemetery

Hatch Cemetery The Hatch Cemetery (aka the Randolph Hatch Cemetery) is located 2.4 miles north of Guys Mills on Route 198 between Guys Mills and Blooming Valley.

The Hatch Cemetery is cared for by the Hatch Cemetery Association members. The association was created in October of 1922 and incorporated in 1923. The original minutes, a list of founding members, and subsequent presidents can be found on the association's webpage.

The Hatch Cemetery will hold its Fall Workday on Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 10 am to noon. We will be cleaning and straightening tombstones. Plastic gloves and flat bottom shovels would be appropriate tools to bring.

Squire Franklins (1813-1842) tombstone was originally placed on fieldstone. Over the years those stones had shifted causing the stone to lean with the risk of toppling. Volunteers from the Hatch Cemetery Association removed the fieldstone and poured a new cement pad and then reset the Franklin Tombstone.

The monument for Edwin G Griggs (b.1843 d.1885) and his wife Helen Falkenbury Griggs (b.1839 d.1900) was in danger of falling over. A common problem for large stones in old cemeteries. The tombstone is in the Historic Hatch Cemetery located on Route 198 midway between Blooming Valley and Guys Mills. Volunteers from the Hatch Cemetery Association were able to right and stabilize the stone. It was raised enough to get some cement under it. Because our budget is tight, we did all the work by hand. The Hatch Cemetery Association will be participating in the crawfordgives.org campaign which runs from August 12th to August 15th. Please consider a donation.
