Hello all, we are looking for folks interested in helping fill our fall flower pots at Orianda House with mums. For those of you who don't drive, but want to donate mums for our fall flower pots, we can pick you up and take you to garden centers of your choice. We also need holiday lighting white string lights for Orianda House Christmas Open House. We are trying to get an early start on this. We use a lot of lights and we have a lot of buildings to decorate around the park . You can contact me through our website www.friendsoforiandahouse.com. I was at Hobby Lobby and they are already full of Christmas lights. Again, those who want to donate lights and don't drive, we can take you to pick up lights. Thanks! Rick

SAVE THE DATE! Our Annual Holiday Open House is December 13, 2014, 5 PM to 9 PM. Our guest speaker this year is Carlisle Hashim who will talk about the history of the oyster from the Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore. Guy Hager will give a history talk upstairs about the Winans family. There will be refreshments and about 30 trees decorated to represent each of our affliliates. Come see the mansion decorated for the holidays and take a tour throughout the house.

Don"t forget about our Open House Saturday, December 14, 5pm-9pm with guest speaker, Stephen G. W. Walk, Winans family descendant. There will be refreshments, live entertainment and tours of the mansion. The trees will remain up until the second week of January.

The Annual Meeting of the Friends of Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park will be held at the Orianda House this Sunday, April 21st. A Silent Auction will be on display at 1:30 PM for browsing and bidding (monies will be used to provide Baltimore children with bus transportation to the park for a half-day learning experience), and the meeting will begin at 2 PM. The speaker for the afternoon is Jim Himel who will speak on the topic of The Importance of the Urban Tree Canopy. The business portion of the meeting will follow. The Silent Auction results will be announced and distributed as we enjoy the refreshments, companionship of other Friends and the opportunity to view another year of improvements to the Orianda House.
