Join us this Wednesday, April 8, for the next event in our Revolutionary War Roundtable Speaker Series with George Wright and Bill Angresano. Wright is a 45‑year member of the New Jersey Bar, a member of the NJ Society Sons of the American Revolution, and an active supporter of historic preservation with a special interest in Bergen County’s Revolutionary War history. Angresano is a fine artist of 25 years whose award‑winning work appears in national exhibitions and in collections including the Museum of Wildlife and Natural History in San Diego, the Bergen County Museum of Arts and Sciences, and the Boxing Hall of Fame.

Their joint presentation will explore the March 23, 1780, battle at the Old Paramus Reformed Church, which involved about 900 combatants. Wright will discuss the background and strategic importance of the Continental Army post at the Church and the events of the battle. Angresano will present his new painting of the scene, created for the 250th anniversary of American independence and the Church’s 300th anniversary.

The discussion will be at 7:00PM at One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack, NJ, in the 1st Floor Multipurpose Room.

Did you know that this legend sits at the center of Van Saun? Local legend has it that George Washington himself watered his horse right here in the streams located at the center of Van Saun County Park, where 14,000 Continental Army troops passed through in their travels during the American Revolution!

Washington Spring is now a beloved space that boasts a peaceful atmosphere that beats the hustle and bustle of the busy roads and highways just outside of the park.

This is Part 1 of our series on County historic markers and sites, so follow along as we explore the Campbell-Christie house at the Historic New Bridge Landing next!
