HFD Update:

Effective 0001 hours, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Firefighter James Walker IV, pending certification by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, is appointed to the rank of Fire Lieutenant in the Hackensack Fire Department by order of Thomas Freeman, City Manager.

I would like to congratulate Lt. Walker IV, and wish him continued success in his new role.

Join us as we come together to honor and remember the lives lost on the 25th anniversary of September 11. Our 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will take place on Friday, September 11, at 2:30PM at Fire Headquarters. All are invited to stand united in solemn reflection and pay tribute to the courage and sacrifices of those who served that day. We will never forget.

HFD Update:

Congratulations to Lieutenant Jason Conkle who retired yesterday after 26 years of dedicated service to the Department and City of Hackensack. Lt. Conkle finished his career on the Second Platoon. Please join us in wishing him a long, healthy, and enjoyable retirement!

Excellent job to our firefighters who participated as instructors in the Hackensack Youth Academy last week. Chief Rosazza and Captain Oates attended the graduation last Friday evening.

Second Platoon Ladder 1, MSU, and Deputy 2 responded mutual aid to River Edge yesterday morning to assist with a structure fire. Great job by all companies on scene to quickly knock down the fire.

We also congratulate Hackensack Police Department Sgt. Kley Peralta on his retirement today. Sgt. Peralta and HFD worked together on numerous community engagement and public education events over the past few years.

HFD Update:

Wind and rain was not enough to stop the Hackensack Youth Academy from visiting the City of Hackensack Fire Department today. A full morning of events was still able to be accomplished even with the wet weather. Youth Academy cadets practiced forcible entry, primary search, learned about fire prevention, were given a tour of HQ, and learned basic EMS skills from members of HUMC EMS. The highlight as always was the chance to be involved in a rope rescue scenario and enjoy lunch at Fire Headquarters.

HFD Update:

As the summer winds down, City of Hackensack Fire Department remains committed to providing services to residents and visitors.

On August 18th, 1st Platoon members responded to a vehicle fire on McKinley Street inside an attached garage. The fire was quickly knocked down, limiting extension to the building itself. Thank you to Hrg News & Resources for the provided pictures.

Reminder: The entry level firefighter test registration deadline is August 31st. Visit the NJ Civil Sevice website for more information. Last night, HFD members held an open information session at the Civic Center regarding the test and job itself. Thank you to the Hackensack Police Department for attending as well and providing guidance.

The Safety Bash at Hackensack High School on Sunday, August 9th was a great success. Excellent job to Hackensack Meridian Health and the City of Hackensack for organizing it.

On Sunday, Chief Rosazza and members attended the City of Hackensack, NJ Dominican Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall.

Join us Sunday starting at 9:00 AM at the High School for a free, family-friendly event focused on safety awareness and community resources.

Come early and check out the exhibits before the helicopter lands at 10:00 AM!

The event will feature:

• EZ Ride Bike Rodeo with a mechanic station and helmet fitting
• Car Seat Checkpoint facilitated by the New Jersey State Police
• Touch-A-Truck exhibit
• Vendors, DJ and entertainment
• Free raffles and giveaways
• And, of course, a helicopter landing at 10:00 AM

We were happy to stop by and support this amazing lemonade stand benefiting the Bergen County Animal Shelter & Adoption Center. With the number of stray and lost cats and dogs we encounter, this cause is especially meaningful to us. Great job helping our four-legged friends!
