This one is sure to make you smile 😊

It’s also the perfect advertisement…we are actively recruiting for our Golden Kazoo Band - no experience necessary- just the zest to try something new and to be a little bit nutty.

Benefits of kazooing include:
Being social
It’s easy to carry
It’s inexpensive
It’s good for your lungs
It’s good for your brain
You get to tell your kids and grandkids that you’re in a kazoo band
You get a cool Golden Kazoo T-shirt and a Golden Kazoo
We may even be able to secure some kind of Golden Kazoo transportation to performances (stay tuned)

We are on summer hiatus but plan to pick back up in September. Practices will be weekly on Tuesdays from 11:15 to 12:15. Come when you can, don’t come when you can’t (no part of this should be stressful).

Email Sheri at [email protected] (or call 856-354-8789) if you would like more information, and definitely mention this to your friends and neighbors. If it helps you, grab a few friends and come together as a group.

Happy Kazooing!

Last Wednesday we welcomed Camden County Commissioner Jennifer Fleisher to speak during our Something to Chew On lunch and speaker program. We had a full house and a waitlist (and it was the first time our presenter came with a photographer, so we have better pictures than usual too). She came packed with information about events, programs and resources for seniors at the county level, as well as information about the summer's Concert Series, traffic/roadwork updates, and general information about who she is, what she does, and the role of the Camden County Commissioner. Our folks came with questions and Jen answered all questions graciously and with a smile. We’ve had many many gratifying events and programs over the years, and this one from last Friday ranks right at the top.

Over the course of the school year, 7th Grade Peer Leaders from Haddonfield Middle School partook in a pen pal program with local seniors. They did it the old-fashioned way, via snail mail.

The students got to practice addressing and stamping envelopes and got to experience the joy of running to the mailbox and seeing a handwritten letter waiting for them. Some of them even managed to read cursive.

Seniors were able to connect with youth without even leaving their homes, which made it extra special for the folks who have limited mobility and who don’t generally come to the senior center. They shared stories of their backgrounds and history with each other, made great connections, and perhaps felt a bit less isolated.

This past Friday, they all met together for the first time at Haddonfield Middle School. The kids were so excited to meet their pen pals and vice versa. A 95-year-old woman walking in had tears in her eyes (she wasn’t even the oldest guest with us, we were in the presence of a 100 year-old as well).

The kids decorated the cafeteria with tablecloths and a balloon arch and they decorated picture frames and played bingo and everyone was full of smiles.

We are very grateful to Michelle Cannaday, the Peer Leader Advisor, for saying yes to doing this program, for facilitating her end of the program AND for agreeing to do it again next year. We’re excited!
