The Story of an Unnamed Alley

There is an unnamed alley off Lake Street that intersects Willits Avenue and continues to Grove Street, which the Commissioners wanted to name for public safety efficiency. They sent letters to residents in the area and invited them to suggest a name.

The top vote‑getter was Hitchner Alley, in honor of Boyd A. Hitchner, a long‑time resident who worked at ACME and owned an antique store in Downtown Haddonfield.

At the August Business Meeting, the Commissioners, along with Boyd’s widow, Anne Hitchner, celebrated the official naming of Hitchner Alley. As Mayor Siedell noted, “it’s not every day you get to name a roadway in a town like ours.”

DPW will now install signage at the appropriate intersection.

📬 Tax Bill Mailing Update

Tax bills will be mailed out within the next 24 hours. The grace period for payment runs through August 28. Payments received after 8/28 will accrue interest back to the statutory due date of August 1.

Residents enrolled in Auto‑Pay or Direct Withdrawal will have their payments posted on August 14.

Tomorrow’s Monday with the mayor is canceled. I have a work commitment so I have to be in Philadelphia early.
