The Washington County Department of Planning and Zoning, on behalf of the Historic District Commission, reminds residents that one week remains to submit nominations for the 2027 John C. Frye Historic Preservation Awards.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Each May, as part of Preservation Month, the Board of County Commissioners recognizes three individuals, organizations or projects that exemplify best practices in one of three categories:

▪ Historic Resource Preservation
▪ Historic Resource Advocacy
▪ Historic Resource Adaptive Reuse

The Washington County Highway Department announces an upcoming road closure on Beaver Creek Church Road at White Hall Road. The road will be closed to through traffic on Monday, October 26, 2026, and Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. daily for road repairs.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Alternative routes will be available for motorists.

Board Duties: To meet regularly with National Park Service representatives to provide community input into the decision making process for operations, policies and projects at the Antietam Battlefield.

Meets: 1st Wednesday of each month, 2:00 p.m., Antietam Battlefield Administrative Office

Black Rock Golf Course (Washington County Public Golf Corporation)

Board Duties: To advise and provide assistance and recommendations to the County Commissioners regarding the Black Rock Golf Course for the use and benefit of the public, provide advice to the County and assist in the promotion of golf and related services to the public.

Meets: 3rd Monday of each month, 4:30 p.m., Black Rock Golf Course.
