At our Friday, June 20 meeting, we spent a little time showcasing and demonstrating just a few of the District assets. Two of our three response trailers, a pop up tent and the ASAP-18 tent. We also showcased the response cart stocked with HICS forms, clipboards, and flashlights.

Paramedic Larry Nuckols

Portland, Indiana


With regret, we notify you of the line-of-duty death of Paramedic Larry Nuckols of Jay County EMS in Portland, Indiana.

Paramedic Nuckols suffered a fatal heart attack while on duty Friday evening.

He was working a 24-hour shift and had responded to multiple emergency calls earlier that day. Just before 8:00 p.m., his partner found him unresponsive while sitting in a chair. She initiated CPR and called for assistance. Advanced care was rendered, and he was transported to the hospital a block away, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Paramedic Nuckols was 53 years old and had served in EMS for over 32 years. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran with three deployments and served until retirement. His six adult children survive him.

The D6 Healthcare Coalition is conducting an HSEEP-compliant workshop for developing a Paratransit Patient Movement Plan. This plan would be used to move larger quantities of ambulatory patients from long-term healthcare facilities or extended care facilities. The workshop is being held in three locations - Kokomo, Muncie, and Richmond . Our last meeting will be tomorrow in Richmond at 1 pm.

Ongoing at this moment, our Coalition is holding it's October Meeting at First Baptist Church in New Castle. Following the business meeting, we'll conduct training on the State of Indiana's 800 MHz radio system. The training is provided by IPSC.
