You’ve heard of the ‘Tour of Italy’ at the Olive Garden?

Well last evening, our crews embarked on an event filled excursion of their own!!

We’ll call it ‘The Tour of South County’.

That’s right, our crew spent the evening on a luxury cruise of southern Washington County, taking in all the sights an scenery the area had to offer. Downed trees and power lines were aplenty, blocked roads with a hint of thunder and lightning. The serene sounds of heavy rain and wind made for a relaxing atmosphere while they basked in the luxurious comfort of our priemier yet practical Engine 9-2. Bougee can’t begin to describe the posh environs inside that fire engine. No A/C, fogged up windows, and the turning radius…ooh, the envy of any mortal man. Jealous? Don’t be. 😉
While units were operating on a fire in Fairplay’s district, we were requested to transfer to Boonsboro Co.6. Engine 9-2 handled the task with a crew of 3.
As command started to scale back units, our assignment changed to transfer to Sharpsburg Co 1.
Suffice it to say that the route between the two stations was littered with trees and branches due to the storm, so the crew had to make their way around and through, stopping at several places along the way to clear debris.
When finally making it to Sharpsburg, they handled a few more storm related calls and were placed in service shortly after.

So any of our south county friends that saw an engine from Leitersburg (yes, we’re from Washington Co. too, just further up north where the ground is level 😳) down in your neck of the woods last night, we weren’t lost, we were invited. 🥰

But in the end we were happy to help- and it made for a good story. 😊

Oh, the places we go and the things we do.
Every call is an adventure.🚒

While that was happening - we also had our Sprinkler System tested, which resulted in a faulty pump/motor that we need to replace. $$$
We also had our fire alarm system maintenance conducted this week. $$$
Our members began building shelves in our UTV Bay for storage of essential equipment, including pumps that we use for flooding conditions, spare extrication cribbing and some forestry equipment. $$$

Our monthly Membership Meeting was held on Monday evening as well.

So what, right? That’s why we exist.
Yes, it is.

The point is that our volunteer and career staff work tirelessly and usually around the clock to not only provide fire and emergency services to or community, but also maintain our facility(s). All this takes $$$

Due to circumstances beyond our control, our annual boot drive, which we have conducted for the last 20 years during the Peach Festival, did not do as well as we had hoped, but our food stand was a success.

We have recently started or On-Line Raffle fundraisers back up as well as our continuous 50/50 initiative. We thank you for your continued support on those fundraisers. We are also planning a tentative Pit Beef Sandwich sale in early October, so be on the lookout for that as well.

Our fundraising efforts go directly into providing fire and emergency services to our community, maintaining our facility and our apparatus. You can SEE where your contributions go, all day, every day. Transparency. Can you say that about all “civic” organizations? You’re entitled to know where your contributions go, so make sure you find out.

Visit www.leitersburgfire.org for our on-line raffle or click this link to play our 50/50!!

Hey!
Pay attention…

School starts next week, so our friends at the WCSO put out a little reminder of the law regarding traffic.

Also, busses try to keep a pretty tight and regimented schedule and route. They plan it out to ensure the kids can get picked up and to school on time. Their routes and times are pretty much set, and slight deviations can result in kids being late or getting off at the wrong stop. You’ll notice that the bus (usually) shows up at the same time every day, make the same stops every day and uses the same route - every day. Not by choice, but by necessity.

You are an adult. You have choices. If you don’t want to get “stuck” behind said bus, you can choose to depart earlier, you can choose to go a different route, take an Uber, catch a bus - not that bus - find a new job, purchase a helicopter, walk, build your own trebuchet (please wear a helmet), catch a ride with SpaceX, or figure out teleportation.

OR, you can patiently wait behind the bus, continue your travel to your destination while listening to a little “Yacht Rock”, reminiscing about your old high school days and remembering how you couldn’t wait to graduate and be a marine biologist.

Remember, that bus in front of you is delivering the next generation of kids to “get their learn on”. If you ever want to retire, you’ll need them to take your place. The alternative is that you work forever .

I myself am working on that trebuchet. 🤣

🏫 School is Back Next Week! 🚌

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reminds motorists that students will soon be heading back to the classroom. With the start of school comes increased traffic, frequent school bus stops, and more children walking to and from school.

Please help us keep our students safe by:

🚌 Watching for school buses and being prepared for frequent stops.

🛑 Stopping for school buses when their red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.

🚸 Watching carefully for students walking or crossing roadways, especially near schools and bus stops.

🚗 Slowing down in school zones and staying alert for changing traffic patterns.

📵 Putting the phone down and keeping your full attention on the road.

Allow yourself a little extra travel time and remember—students may not always be watching for you, so please make sure you’re watching for them.

Let’s work together to make the start of the new school year a safe one for everyone!
