Aloha,
Hawaiian Electric’s priority is to provide you with safe and reliable service. To achieve this, our crews must work on electrical infrastructure in your neighborhood. On Thursday, April 24, our crews will be replacing a utility pole serving the Hana Highway area. This will require two brief scheduled power outages affecting your service area on Thursday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. AND 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., for crews to safely complete their work.
The timeframe provided is an estimate, and there is a possibility that unforeseen conditions could lengthen or shorten the outage duration. However, our crews will work quickly and safely to complete the job and restore your service as soon as possible.
To prepare for this outage, we suggest the following:
• Be aware that on-street parking, driveways, and street access could be blocked as our crews work in the area.
• Turn off and unplug sensitive electronic equipment such as televisions and computers to avoid damage in case of a surge when power is restored.
• Plan for alternative storage for perishable items from the refrigerator to be stored on this day.
• Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed as much as possible during the outage to maintain proper food temperatures. Foods will keep frozen in the freezer for up to 72 hours for a fully stocked freezer, and about 24 hours for a half-full freezer.
• Plan ahead for meals with the understanding that your stove and microwave may not be available.
• Be reminded that motorized gates and garage doors will need to be manually operated.
• Have a backup plan and charge necessary electronic devices if anyone in your household works from home, participates in distance learning, or uses life support equipment.
• Visit www.hawaiianelectric.com/prepare for more information on how to prepare for an outage.
Hawaiian Electric has taken steps to keep our employees healthy and on the job, as well as to keep customers safe. Our crews and contractors continue to perform essential work that involves minimal interaction with the public.
We recognize that many of you are working from home and we apologize for the inconvenience. We appreciate your understanding that this work is vitally important to provide you with safe and reliable service.
