The City of Hailey Police Department has an opening for the position of Patrol Officer. This is a full-time position with three 12-hour & four 11-hour shifts per 2-week pay periods. Prior law enforcement experience is encouraged to come in as a lateral and at a higher starting wage, but not required.

If selected to join our team with no previous experience, we will provide extensive on-the-job training and send you to the academy while you are a paid employee. Starting patrol pay is $76,960/yr, and beginning wage can start much higher DOE with overtime and compensatory opportunities available. We also offer bilingual, certification/specialty duty, and physical fitness incentive pay.

The Hailey Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency, the only one in our immediate area. Employees enjoy a highly competitive benefit package including medical/dental/vision insurance, 13 paid holidays per year, and at least 2 weeks paid vacation the first year of employment. Additionally, the City of Hailey deposits a minimum of $2,500 per year, per employee, into a Health Savings Account to cover employee’s out-of-pocket health expenses, and contributes to PERSI (state retirement account). There is also an additional housing stipend for those who qualify for $3,600 - $4,800 per year.

Hailey is in the Wood River Valley and offers several outdoor recreational type activities. It is definitely a great place to live, work, and play. Hailey Police School Resource Officers (SROs) Sam Kuoha & Kylie Jones pose this morning in front of our Wood River Wolverine patrol vehicle, just before heading off to their first day of school at their respective assignments. SRO Kuoha is entering his 1st school year as an SRO with our department, but he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with his over 20 years in law enforcement after joining our team earlier this summer. Officer Jones is entering her 2nd full year as an SRO and has been with our team for 4 years now. We also had a noticeable presence on traffic patrol emphasis around all the neighborhoods next to our schools and will continue to do so. We are proud of our staff at your Hailey Police Department and excited to bring such a talented duo of SROs to our City of Hailey's Blaine County Schools. Have a great 2026-27 school year everyone!

Along with some of our friends from the Blaine County Sheriff's team, this morning we visited with numerous Blaine County School District members during their district-wide breakfast and then we welcomed them to their district-wide meeting at the Community Campus. With all the smiles and laughs we saw this morning, it looks like our partners at all the BCSD Schools are more than ready to welcome students tomorrow for the new school year. Bring on the new school year and let's make it a fun and safe one!

Teachers' First Day 2026: One of our favorite traditions is welcoming our Blaine County School District teachers and staff members back to a new school year. Thank you to our educators, administrators, and support staff for all you do. Wishing you an amazing 2026/2027 school year.

The Blaine County Sheriff Behavioral Health Co-Response Team has been officially working for over a week now and they are already doing great things toward the betterment of mental health resources within our community. The City of Hailey Police are excited to be able to utilize the co-response team when needed and for follow-up for our city's residents in crisis.

A new team began responding to behavioral health emergencies across Blaine County on Monday, pairing a licensed behavioral health clinician with a specially trained sheriff’s deputy on calls.

Folks, this video is exactly what we are talking about when we continuously ask that you stay alert when driving, especially around crosswalks and uncontrolled intersections. The teenager in this video could have been seriously injured, or worse, this could have easily resulted in a fatality. Thank goodness the teen only ended up with a lot of abrasions on his body. The driver was cited and released for Inattentive Driving (and before the comments roll in, we do not have reason to believe the driver was on their cell phone, just not paying attention as much as they should have been).

We spoke with the family of the teenager before releasing this video (from a camera at city hall) and they were good with doing so in hopes it will bring more awareness to how fast this can all occur. With our not-so-small City of Hailey continuing to grow and the upcoming school year, please make it a priority to drive the speed limit, pay attention to school and park zones, use extra caution around crosswalks and intersections, and just be a good, patient driver.

We understand traffic collisions are going to occur, we are just thankful this one turned out the way it did and not much worse.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF:

The tragic and senseless act of violence that unfolded in Twin Falls yesterday reminds us that none of us are immune to experiencing or witnessing acts of evil. It is an unfortunate reality, but it is a reality nonetheless.

You would be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't travel from the Wood River Valley to the Magic Valley on a regular basis, or who doesn't know someone from the Twin Falls community. Good, hardworking people travel to our area every day and every week, contributing to our communities and helping make our valley a better place.

Two members of our Police Department even had close friends or family members in the immediate area at the time of the shooting. I am sure many others throughout Hailey and the Wood River Valley experienced the same fear and uncertainty as they waited to hear from loved ones or friends who were at or near the chaotic scene.

There is a saying I have heard several times in law enforcement, I've even uttered it a time or two: "It's not a matter of if, but when something bad will happen." Sadly, that "when" occurred too close to home. Our hearts are hurting today for our family, friends, neighbors, and the entire Magic Valley community, and they likely will for some time.

I do believe that unquestionably and unequivocally, good prevailed over evil yesterday.

I have no doubt that strangers shielded people they had never met, helping them find safety. Ordinary citizens instinctively became protectors, risking themselves to help others they didn't even know. Law enforcement officers responded without hesitation, moving directly toward the threat. Dispatchers, firefighters, EMS personnel, hospital staff, and countless others rose to the moment and did exactly what they had trained to do.

Even in the midst of unimaginable loss and a community in mourning, goodness revealed itself in countless ways. Courage, compassion, and selflessness were on full display in a community that so many of us know, love, and hold close to our hearts.

My hope is that we take the tragedy and evil that occurred in Twin Falls and turn it into a reminder that goodness will always overcome darkness.

We win by helping a neighbor in need.

We win by showing compassion.

We win by offering hope.

We win by standing together.

We win by choosing kindness.

We win by simply being good human beings to one another.

Evil is always waiting, believing it can strike and prevail. We will not let it. We are here for one another, and our goodness, our compassion, and our unity will always be stronger.

I've seen my fair share of evil—probably more than I could ever forget—but at least for today and for the days and weeks to come, I'll be thinking only of the goodness that exists in all of us.

Please continue to keep everyone affected by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers, especially the victims, their families, the first responders, healthcare professionals, and the entire Twin Falls community.

Sunday Shoutout:
To the Blaine County Sheriff team for winning the 3rd Annual Courageous Survival First Responders Softball Tournament!

The tourney was a great event this weekend with six teams. Hailey Fire took home second with yours truly, the City of Hailey Police Department, coming in third. Sun Valley PD and other Fire Personnel from Blaine County and Twin Falls City played with other teams too, as well as a Buhl PD & Fire team and a Courageous Survival team.

A great time was had by all in the HOT sun! We can't wait until next year.
