Click It or Ticket!

Seat belts take only seconds to buckle, but they can make the difference between life and death in a crash.

You can’t control the road or the actions of other drivers, but you can protect yourself and your passengers.

Every trip. Every seat. Every time.
Don’t take chances with your life, please buckle up!

🇺🇸✨ This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We will never forget!

Haledon residents, did you know?

Just a couple of minutes away, stands the Passaic County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall at the Passaic County Public Safety Academy, 300 Oldham Road, Wayne, NJ.

This powerful memorial honors the more than 58,000 American service members who gave their lives during the Vietnam War, including heroes from Passaic County.

Among those remembered is Commander Peter Mongilardi Jr. of Haledon, NJ, a 40-year-old U.S. Navy pilot and Air Wing Commander who served with honor and distinction. Commander Mongilardi was killed in action on June 25, 1965, while flying a combat reconnaissance mission over Vietnam. His courage and sacrifice stand as a lasting reminder that the cost of freedom is deeply personal and forever connected to our community. 🇺🇸

On behalf of Mayor Michael Johnson and the Haledon Municipal Council, the Haledon Office of Emergency Management announces the following:

HEAT ADVISORY

Due to a Heat Advisory in effect, the Senior Center at the Haledon Municipal Complex will be open as a Cooling Center. The community is encouraged to stay hydrated and to check on the elderly, children, and pets. Anyone seeking this service, may check-in at the Main Desk in the Haledon Police Department. The Haledon Police Department may be directly reached at 973.790.4444.

A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of emergencies, call 911.

The Haledon Police Department will participate in the 2026 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign from May 18 through May 31, 2026.

The statewide initiative is coordinated by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and focuses on increasing seat belt usage through public education and high-visibility enforcement efforts.

Click It or Ticket is a nationwide traffic safety campaign that emphasizes the importance of wearing a seat belt during every trip.

Seat belts continue to be the most reliable safety feature available to vehicle occupants. According to NHTSA, thousands of lives are saved each year because motorists were properly restrained during crashes. Law enforcement officials stress that failing to wear a seat belt significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death for everyone inside the vehicle.
Traffic safety data from New Jersey shows that crashes involving unrestrained occupants continue to be a major concern statewide. In 2024, more than 4,000 crashes involved at least one unrestrained occupant, resulting in 135 fatalities. Fatal crashes involving unrestrained drivers and passengers increased 15 percent from 2023 to 2024. Between 2020 and 2024, 681 of the 1,558 vehicle occupants killed on New Jersey roadways were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Haledon Chief of Police Angelo J. Daniele said, “Wearing a seat belt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect yourself and others while traveling on our roadways. Through the Click It or Ticket campaign, our officers will continue focusing on enforcement and public education efforts aimed at improving seat belt compliance and promoting safer driving habits throughout our Haledon community.”

During the campaign period, Haledon police personnel will conduct focused enforcement details and high-visibility patrols targeting seat belt violations. Officers will also monitor compliance with New Jersey’s child passenger safety laws and address other traffic violations when necessary. These enforcement activities are funded through grant assistance provided by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.

The Haledon Police Department reminds all motorists that New Jersey law requires seat belts for drivers and passengers. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to ensure children are secured in properly installed child safety seats or booster seats appropriate for their age and size.

The message remains clear: Click It or Ticket!

Any questions may be directed to Traffic Division Supervisor Sergeant Andrea Boos at [email protected].

🌷💛 Happy Mother’s Day from the Haledon Police Department 💛🌷

On this beautiful day, we celebrate all of the incredible mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, and mother figures throughout the Haledon community!

In difficult moments, mothers are usually the first ones trying to hold everything together. Whether it’s answering a late-night phone call, calming their child down, showing up when things go wrong, or simply never giving up on them, we see it everyday.

We know raising a child isn’t easy, and we appreciate the mothers who work with us, trust us, and stand beside their children through the good and the bad. Just know that when your family needs help, your Haledon Police Department will be there with you. You are not alone, and we thank you!
