Meet Kevin Chesnik, our Executive Director and one of the driving forces behind our Economic Development Training for Small Business series.

Through his grant development with Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and strategic partnerships, like with Potawatomi Ventures, Kevin has helped make this series possible, creating new opportunities for Native entrepreneurs and small business owners to access valuable education, resources, and connections.

Kevin Chesnik serves as Executive Director for the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin. He is an enrolled member of the Oneida Nation and previously served as a member of the AICCW Board of Directors. Before joining the Chamber, Kevin served as Vice President of Bloom Companies, LLC and spent much of his career in transportation engineering, including serving in leadership roles with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, where he held the position of Chief Engineer. He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Kevin's extensive experience in engineering, infrastructure, and organizational leadership, combined with his commitment to strengthening Native businesses and Tribal economies, continues to help shape opportunities for entrepreneurs across Wisconsin.

Strong partnerships are the foundation of strong communities, and we're proud to recognize Alexis Harris and Bwadwét Innovation Community as host partners for the first session of our Economic Development Training for Small Businesses series on August 11.

Working alongside the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, Alexis has helped bring this new Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation-funded training opportunity to Milwaukee, creating a space where Native entrepreneurs and small business owners can access valuable resources, expert guidance, and meaningful connections.

Alexis Harris serves as the Innovation Community Director at Bwadwét Innovation Community, a Potawatomi VenturesPotawatomi Ventures company, where she leads initiatives that foster entrepreneurial growth across Indian Country. An enrolled member of the Forest County Potawatomi Community, Alexis brings deep experience in business development and mentorship, supporting Indigenous entrepreneurs. Her professional career includes leadership roles at Gartner and Nicolet College, along with previous involvement on the Potawatomi Ventures Board. In 2024, she was recognized with the Native American 40 Under 40 and Woman of Distinction awards for her leadership and impact.

We're grateful for Alexis' leadership and for the partnership with Bwadwét Innovation Community as we work together to expand opportunities for Native-owned businesses throughout Wisconsin.

Government contracting can open the door to new opportunities, but knowing where to start is key!

Join us on August 11 as Aina Vilumsons, CEO of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute (WPI), shares her expertise during our Economic Development Training for Small Businesses session on Law and Government Contracting.

Aina Vilumsons has been with the Wisconsin Procurement Institute since 1997, serving as Executive Director since 2000 and CEO since 2017. WPI is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping Wisconsin businesses compete for and win government contracts at the federal, state, and local levels.

In addition to leading WPI, Aina serves on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Procurement Institute, is Treasurer of the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Contract Management Association, Secretary for the Great Lakes Chapter of the Society of American Military Engineers, Treasurer of the Volk Field Community Council, and a Board Member of Wisconsin Employer Support of the Guard. She earned her B.S. from the University of Minnesota and her MBA from Marquette University.
