05/27/2026

In accordance with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP) regulations (https://www.mass.gov/info-details/outdoor-water-use-restrictions-for-cities-towns-and-golf-courses), updated outdoor water use restrictions have been established effective Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, as follows:

- Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday: No watering permitted

- Monday & Thursday: Watering permitted for even-numbered houses from 5 am to 8 am and 6 pm to 9 pm

- Tuesday & Friday: Watering permitted for odd-numbered houses from 5 am to 8 am and 6 pm to 9 pm

Failure to adhere to the water use restrictions will result in enforcement actions as follows:

- 1st Offense: Verbal Warning

- 2nd Offense: $50 fine

- 3rd Offense: $100 fine

- 4th Offense: Termination of water service and $250 service reinstatement fee

Increased water demand threatens drinking water quality and public safety. High water usage endangers the Town’s ability to store necessary volumes for fire protection and optimal system performance. Additionally, watering during the heat of the day wastes water and does not benefit your lawn.

If you have a well or irrigation well, your well number must be posted on your front lawn to prevent the Water Department or Police Department from stopping at your house to enforce this policy. You may contact the Board of Health by calling 781-293-6768 or e-mailing Peggy Selter ([email protected]) to obtain your well number, if needed.

For all other questions, you should contact the Water Department by visiting their office at 500 Plymouth Street, calling 781-293-1733, or e-mailing Bill Lindsay ([email protected]) or Kathy O’Neil ([email protected]). The Board of Water Commissioners appreciates your continued cooperation.
