The 2026 property tax bills have been mailed and taxpayers should start receiving them in the next day or two. Here are a few important reminders:

- Any payments made BEFORE September 1 receive a 2% discount. We honor postmarks but the local post offices do NOT apply postmarks now. Do NOT wait until August 31 to mail your discounted payment!
- 2026 property taxes will be DELINQUENT JANUARY 6, 2027 and 2% interest will add immediately. As stated above, do NOT wait until January 5 to mail your payment!
- Do you need a short-term payment agreement? Please use the 4 coupons included in your bill or call (252) 583-2121 option 1 to speak with a collections staff member. Payment agreements will NOT be started after January 5, 2027. Don't wait until the last minute to talk to staff about a payment agreement! It's too late to start a payment agreement once the bill is delinquent!
- Please take a few minutes to read the back of the tax notice. There is a lot of very important information included that answers the most common questions.
