The Virginia Cooperative Extension will also be testing pressure canner lids as a free service to the public on June 11, 2026. This will include an inspection of the lid, seal, and pressure gauge for accuracy. This service will be able year-round at the Halifax Extension office. To schedule an appointment to have your lid inspected, call the Extension Office at 434-476-2147. You need only bring the lid, not the entire pressure canner. Extension publications on food preservation as well as food preservation recipes are to be also available.
