Work on Hemlock Road is now scheduled to start Tuesday, March 16.

Work on Hemlock Road was started but was interrupted by weather. Work will restart on Wednesday Feb 17 but may be interrupted again if the weather is bad. The middle section of road will be closed during the day when there is construction but will be open each night. However, the road will be rougher during construction, so please use an alternate route whenever possible.

The weather-delayed construction on Hemlock Road is now scheduled to start tomorrow Tuesday, Feb 9 and will continue though this week, if the weather cooperates.

Due to the winter weather over the next couple of days, the start of this project has been delayed until Tuesday, Feb 2.

Construction Scheduled for
HEMLOCK ROAD
Starting: WEDNESDAY, JAN 27, 2021

We have received a grant from the PA Dirt & Gravel Road program through the Dauphin County Conservation District to continue rebuilding the unpaved portion of Hemlock Road. Because of the mild weather we can do the work now rather than wait for spring.

Construction will start Wednesday, January 27, 2021 and will take a week or so to complete.

The road will get improved drainage with 7 new pipes and 7 water turnouts and the road surface will be raised with 2500 tons of shaped and compacted fill.

The middle section of the road will be closed during construction, but properties on Hemlock Road will be accessible from one end of the road or the other.

SPECIAL MEETING NOTICE

A Special Meeting of the Jefferson Township Board of Supervisors will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the Carsonville Volunteer Fire Company at 2990 Powells Valley Rd, Halifax, PA. The purpose of this meeting will be to award the bid for the Hemlock Road Cartway and Drainage Improvements Dirt & Gravel Project-Phase 2, and to address any other business as becomes necessary.

The Sep 3, 2020 Jefferson Township Meeting will be held at 7:30pm at the Carsonville Fire House. The usual 7:00-7:30pm Supervisors' planning session will not be held. With the continuing Covid-19 issues, the meeting will be held outside with social distancing required but may be moved inside with masks and social distancing required if necessary.

The Aug 6, 2020 Jefferson Township Meeting will be held at 7:30pm at the Carsonville Fire House. The usual 7:00-7:30pm Supervisors' planning session will not be held. With the continuing Covid-19 issues, the meeting will be held outside with social distancing required. If the weather is bad the meeting will move inside with masks and social distancing required.

Notice: Two New Stop Signs Proposed in Jefferson Township
The Township Supervisors are looking for comments on two new stop signs proposals. If you have any comments or suggestions on these proposals, please send them to the Township email ([email protected]), leave a message on Township phone (717-362-2313) or provide input at a meeting.
Proposal #1: Install a "Stop except right turn" sign on Carsonville Road (coming from the Hotel toward Back Road) at the intersection with Middle Road. Only vehicles turning onto Middle Road from Carsonville Road would have to stop; others would keep moving. The reason for this proposal is that the sharp downhill corner on Carsonville Road at that intersection makes the turn onto Middle Road dangerous because it's hard to see oncoming traffic. Stopping before turning would improve safety by requiring more time to look for and been seen by oncoming traffic. Other safety measures such as road markings and warning signs are also being considered.
Proposal #2: Install a stop sign heading west on Back Road at the intersection with White Oak Road. Again the reason for this proposal is safety. When turning onto Back Road from White Oak Road it's difficult to see if any traffic is coming from the left. With a stop sign that traffic would have to stop which would reduce the danger of a collision.

ALERT: On Tuesday, July 21 we will be doing Seal Coating on Carsonville Road from Back Road to the top of the mountain plus on small sections of Back Road (at the western end of the township) and Middle Road (at the White Oak Rd end). Please try to avoid these areas on Tuesday if you can. Although the roads will not be closed, there will be delays at times. - JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP SUPERVISORS
