The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced that 78% of VA hospitals that received an Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating earned four or five stars in the latest annual report from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

That’s the highest percentage since CMS first started rating VA facilities in 2023. Additionally, VA accounted for nearly 15% of all 5-star rated hospitals in the 2026 report. The new report marks the fourth consecutive year that VA facilities have outperformed non-VA facilities, and it’s the second year in a row that no VA hospital received a one-star rating.

Veterans, please make sure you know where your DD-214’s or other discharge papers are and make sure your family members know as well. I have had a lot of requests for discharges when a veteran passes away and the family can’t find it and sometimes that causes the veteran to not be able to get honors or a flag at their service…. That you deserve!! If you can’t find yours, order one now and have it recorded at your local register of deeds.
Another thing to think about…
If you have insurance through VA, or anywhere… make sure your beneficiaries are updated to who you want them to be. I have had instances where it was never changed when the veteran remarried and the EXwife ended up with the insurance money.
