Nebraska 4-H Trail Ride
After many discussions and with much regret the Nebraska 4-H Trail Ride will not be held this year. It was very tough decision but with the devastation of the terrible fire including the loss of the 4-H Lodge, cabins, and many of our trails, we knew we could never recreate a weekend like we had for a great 23 years. Plus with the loss of the lodge we no longer have a camp staff on site that provided all of our meals and played a vital role in
many other activities throughout the weekend. So it was decided to bring an end to a great and successful 23 years!
The committee truly wants to thank everyone who helped and supported us over the years to make it a huge success. Especially the local people from the Thedford, Halsey, Dunning area who helped in so many ways, including ranchers who provided panels and hay, helped with meals and other activities,
entertainment, auctioneers, and Sunday morning services.
Also a big thank you to the Nebraska Forest Service for providing us a place to set up camp at Windmill 25 including water for our horses, helping with the trails, and grading and maintaining the roads.
Another big thank you goes to the University of Nebraska 4-H Foundation and 4-H staff for making it all possible. They handled all of the registrations and publicity as well a helping with the ride. We had the opportunity to work with many great people from both offices over the years.
Lastly, we want to thank all of the riders and non-riders who participated in the ride. Many came to ride but also helped with the pump jack and panels, and elsewhere as needed.
It was always a successful weekend enjoyed by hundreds of riders, young and old, who came from all over Nebraska and even surrounding states. That is what it was all about! Families and friends having an enjoyable weekend by horseback!! All of us made many new friends over the years and will always have fond memories of the Nebraska 4-H Trail Ride!
The proceeds from the ride were used to support the Nebraska 4-H Program and for improvements at the 4-H Lodge.
HAPPY TRAILS!

FYI, Horse back riders are still welcome in the Forest. Windmill 25 and the area to the west and south
were unharmed by the fire. The Natick Campgrounds are still available as well. We suggest your call the
Forest Office before you ride.
