The patient was transported by ambulance to Wichita. The fire was extinguished but not before causing moderate damage to the home. No pets or firefighters were injured during this incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Newton Fire/EMS was assisted by Walton Fire, Whitewater Fire, Sedgwick Fire/EMS, Halstead Fire/EMS, and Harvey County Sheriff. Congratulations Chief Roberson

Please join us in congratulating Chief Steve Roberson on his retirement after nearly 32 years of service to the Newton community. His principled leadership and dedication have made Newton a stronger, safer community. Congratulations, Chief!

Of note, Chief Roberson is our last remaining member hired by Newton Ambulance Department before it merged with Newton Fire to become Newton Fire/EMS in 1997. The end of an era.
