Water Education Grant funding is still available for 2026! Apply today to get financial support for supplies, workshops, and activities that engage our community in water resources. In 2024, grant funds were used to support a student planting at Northtown Library!

August is National Water Quality Month! The term 'water quality' refers to the chemical, biological, and physical characteristics of water. CCWD staff regularly measure water quality parameters in the field and collect samples to be analyzed in a lab. Keeping an eye on short-term and long-term water quality trends helps us understand the health of our local waterways and how we can protect them.

July Water Summary
💧The District averaged 2.75" of precipitation in July.
💧This puts the District 34% below average for the month and 27% below average for the year.
💧 All of Anoka County is experiencing Moderate Drought. Recent precipitation helped relieve this slightly, but flows are still low for this time of year.

C**n Creek's drainage system includes over 134 miles of public ditches! District staff conduct inspections of these ditches on a regular basis, providing a critical assessment of the current condition of drainage systems in the watershed and enabling prioritized replacement and repair where needed. Ensuring proper function of the ditch system reduces risk to property and infrastructure.

Two days left to catch the Shared Currents community art exhibit at Creative Flow Art Center in Fridley! This exhibit invited local artists to explore the theme of water conservation and watershed collaboration through visual art, creating a confluence of perspectives celebrating both the beauty and responsibility of living within a shared watershed.

The animals living in our creeks act as natural indicators of water and habitat health. By looking at what species are present, we can get a better understanding of how our waterways are doing over time. Last week, CCWD staff spent time in a stretch of Sand Creek identifying and recording data on the fish currently living in the creek through a process called 'Biological monitoring' or 'Biomonitoring'.
