Hamburg Police Department – Community Update

Yesterday morning, three Noble Elementary students ingested a chemical product used to change the color of flames in fire pits and campfires. The substance was brought onto the school bus by a student and was ingested while students were on their way to school. This was not a drug, and there is no indication of any illegal substances being involved.

Once at the school, staff responded immediately. The school nurse provided care, Poison Control was contacted, and all three students were taken to the hospital out of caution.

There is no evidence of intentional wrongdoing, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Hamburg Police Department and the Hamburg School District want to reassure parents and the community that the safety and well‑being of our children is our highest priority. All appropriate precautions were taken quickly, and both agencies will continue working closely to ensure a safe environment for every student.

⚠️ TORNADO SIREN TEST TODAY AT NOON
The Police Department will be conducting a test of our new tornado warning sirens around noon today. This is only a routine systems check to ensure everything is working properly before storm season.
There is no emergency—just a scheduled test so we can keep our community safe and informed.

Thank you for your cooperation.

I want to congratulate Officer Lee Nimmer for being the 2025 Hamburg Police Department Officer of the Year. Thank you for your service and dedication to the Hamburg Police Department and to the community.

Due to the ice storm warning, there will be a safe warm place to shelter at the Hamburg Fire Station.

Please take precautions to stay warm and safe & please share to spread the word.

01/23/2026

The Hamburg Police Department is closely monitoring the winter ice storm forecasted to move through our area this weekend. Significant ice accumulation can create extremely hazardous conditions, and we want to ensure every member of our community stays safe.
⚠️ IMPORTANT SAFETY GUIDELINES:
• Stay Indoors: The safest place to be during an ice storm is at home. Avoid all unnecessary travel.
• Avoid the Roads: Black ice is often invisible and incredibly dangerous. Please stay off the roads to allow emergency crews and salt trucks to do their work effectively.
• Prepare Your Home: Ensure you have flashlights, batteries, and extra blankets in case of power outage ________________________________________

👵 ASSISTANCE FOR THE ELDERLY
Our officers will be out on patrol throughout the weekend. We are prioritizing the safety of our senior citizens and those most vulnerable to the cold.
If you are an elderly resident in need of assistance, or if you know of a neighbor who may need a wellness check during the storm, please call us. > Non-Emergency Line: 870-853-2040
For Emergencies: Always dial 911
We are all in this together, Hamburg. Please look out for one another and stay warm. Your safety is our top priority!

⚡ GENERATOR SAFETY
If you lose power and plan to use a portable generator, please follow these life-saving rules:
• Never Use Indoors: Generators must only be used outdoors. Never run one in a garage, carport, or basement, as carbon monoxide is odorless and deadly.
• Distance Matters: Keep your generator at least 20 feet away from your home, windows, and doors to prevent fumes from entering.
• Avoid Backfeeding: Do not plug your generator into a wall outlet. Only plug appliances directly into the generator using heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords.

🐾 PET SAFETY
Our four-legged neighbors need extra care during freezing conditions:
• Bring Them Inside: If it is too cold for you, it is too cold for them. Ensure all pets have a warm, dry place to stay indoors.
• Watch for Hazards: Ice-melt chemicals and salt can irritate paws. Wipe your pet's feet after they come back inside. Also, be vigilant about leaked antifreeze, which is toxic but tastes sweet to animals.
• Emergency Supplies: Keep at least a week’s supply of pet food and any necessary medications on hand.

The Hamburg Police Department would like to extend our deepest gratitude to several outstanding members of our community who stepped up when we needed it most. Following the devastating fire at the Hamburg City Dog Pound, a dedicated team worked tirelessly to rebuild the facility and ensure our local animals had a safe place to stay.
A massive thank you goes out to:
• Terri Riley
• Mike Riley
• Gracie Riley
• Jim Moss
• Animal Control Officer Danny Lephiew
• Volunteers Travis Hall, John McLemore, Donald Johnson
• All the incredible volunteers from PAWS
We also want to send a heartfelt thank you to everyone in the community who donated money and supplies. Your generosity provided the foundation we needed to get back on our feet.
While the Hamburg City Dog Pound is a municipal facility and not a rescue, the partnership we share with PAWS is absolutely vital. Their volunteers have gone above and beyond, providing essential care for the dogs and working alongside us to ensure these animals find their way into loving, permanent homes.
We are incredibly proud to serve a community where people come together to support one another (and our four-legged friends) in times of crisis. Please join us in thanking these individuals for their hard work, craftsmanship, and heart! 🐾
