Very cool and well deserved recognition for SSgt Archer, this story epitomizes what the Air Force core values mean!!

Congratulations to USO Airman of the Year Staff Sgt. Nigel C. Archer, Jr.! His courageous actions make him one of the most outstanding service members of the year.

He displayed quick thinking, exemplary leadership and heroism while responding to an accident near Comayagua, Honduras. Archer noticed fresh tire skid marks disappearing from the road. He realized that a vehicle had driven off the roadway after being involved in a collision. Jumping into action, Archer slid down the 50-foot wet embankment, where he discovered an overturned van with a family of local Hondurans trapped inside.

Archer immediately secured the scene to begin extracting the victims out of the vehicle. Despite a language barrier, he created an expedient rescue plan and directed others to call for emergency help. Archer assessed the victims’ injuries to help paramedics, even placing an improvised splint on a victim’s broken arm. Archer’s lifesaving actions directly contributed to the recovery of all nine passengers.

The USO is honored to name this brave airman a 2020 USO Service Member of the Year. Learn about all the heroic 2020 USO Service Member of the Year honorees here: bit.ly/2IoIlSZ

History being made in the Air Force as General Brown is selected as the first African American Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Senate confirms Gen. Charles Q. Brown to be the 22nd Air Force Chief of Staff! Gen. Brown is the first African American Chief of Staff for any U.S. military branch and the United States Air Force is proud to be a part of such a historic day. Gen Brown will replace Gen Goldfein Aug 6th in a swear-in ceremony.

Prior to his Chief of Staff appointment, General Charles Q. Brown served in a variety of leadership roles including commander of U.S. Pacific Air Forces where he led 46,000 Airmen and devised policies and tactics that guaranteed mission success.

Gen Brown graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering and earned his commission—with distinction—through Air Force ROTC. Later he became a highly decorated F-16 combat pilot. Clocking in more than 2,900 flying hours in the F-16 as well as 15 other aircrafts, this Airman knows what it means to .
