STC was founded on the idea of Teachers Teaching Teachers, believing that teachers know best what training they need to be successful professionals and have successful students. Founded nearly 30 years ago in 1984, we continue to provide Staff Development Training to teachers, teacher aides, administrators and the community. Technology Training (iPads, Smartboards, Software), Classroom Management,
Common Core, Data Collection and Evaluation, Content Areas and Differentiated Instruction are a few of the course content areas in which we provide training. STC also offers office support services such as: Poster Printing, Copies, Color Copies, Laminating and Binding at cost. We also have Ellison and Variquest Die Cut Systems, Books, iPads, Flip-Cams, Video Cameras, Quizzers, Electronic Response Units and Mac Laptops for use or loan free of charge. Southtown Teachers' Center is funded by a grant from NYSED. STC is open to anyone to use. Your support is needed every year to let our elected official know how valuable Teacher Resource Centers are for our teachers and our students' continued success. We appreciate the opportunity to help you reach your professional goals.

Hello friends, it's our turn to let our voices be heard in Albany in support of restoring funding to NYS Teacher Centers. Help us to be here for you next year!
FYI: You may not know this, but TCs aren't automatically included in the State budget each year. We have to be added back in and your emails DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Please take 30 seconds to tell them you want us here next year. Thank you.

Our sincere condolences to the Buffalo Fire Department and the family and friends of the fallen firefighter, who was lost battling this morning's fire in downtown Buffalo.
STC is fortunate to have Amber involved with our center as a supporter and instructor. Read her latest blog post on here.
I promised my students that we would close the gap in what they’d experienced by going through this reading and writing boot camp for a month.
Cool idea to get students engaged in the process. Future librarians and booksellers in the making! Picture from Edutopia's page.

Combining simple exercises with math instruction can help ensure that elementary school students remember these lessons.
STC was sad to hear of the passing of our former director, Bob Smith. Bob was a long time biology teacher at Hamburg schools and after retirement took on the position of director of the STC. Missing the classroom. Bob returned as a biology teacher at Immaculata academy, where he was a favorite of students. Always kind and generous, with a quick wit and a kind word for everyone he met. We will miss you. Our sincere condolences to Bob's family and friends.
If you would like a poster, let Vanessa know. It's a small thing, but it is something we can do.
Congratulations to the students from Frontier and Hamburg, as well as retired Frontier Art Teacher, Laura Glista! How exciting to be featured at Burchfield Penney Art Center in this collaborative display!
What started as an art project at a California elementary school has gone viral. The free hotline offers wise advice and encouraging messages from kids to anyone who calls.

It’s that time of year again: 100 days of school.
I dread this time every year. Why? Because my Facebook and Instagram are flooded with pictures of their kids dressed up as elderly people, complete with walkers or canes.
Maybe you’re saying, “What? Why? That’s so cute!”
But I have to tell you as a Mama of a disabled child who uses a walker daily, it's really not! It’s annoying and hurtful.
Yet again, I have to explain to my beautiful child why people think it’s funny to use something she uses as a mobility device as a funny prop.
A friend of mine with a disabled child recently had her daughter come home angry and upset after her school’s 100 Day celebration. “Mom, why do they think it’s funny to use canes to sword fight? That’s what I use to walk! They’re not for sword fighting! They’re not a toy!”
Schools :: is there not something else we can do to celebrate 100 days? Something that’s not Ableist?
With all of the zillions of ways to celebrate 100 days on Pinterest, can y’all not find another way? Can you not design a dress up day for kids to glue 100 things on their shirt instead of using a walker or a cane? Can we not count out 100 skittles?
There are other ways to celebrate 100 days of school without making it into this Ableist mess it’s become.
If you wouldn’t allow your child to use a hearing aid /wheelchair/ insert other adaptive equipment for dress up, why are you allowing them to use walkers and canes as props for a school dress up day?
I prefer to let disabled people speak for themselves, but for now I will speak out and advocate for my young child.
Know better, do better! Thanks!
