On behalf of the officers and members of the Newton Abbott Fire Company, we extend our deepest condolences to the members of Seneca Hose Fire Company and their families during this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Seneca Hose family. We stand with you and are here for you as brothers and sisters in the fire service.

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of one of our members, Tyler Schenck, who passed away in an accident last evening.

Tyler was not only a valued and respected member of our organization, but also a member of the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS, as well as a former member of Reserve Fire Company.

At approximately 2200 hours on August 22, 2026, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Vol. Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded and worked together to manage the incident.

Tyler was described by those who knew and worked alongside him as lovable, lighthearted, and a passionate EMS provider who genuinely cared about everyone he met. During his time serving in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a meaningful impact on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the people he served. His loss will be deeply felt throughout our public safety, fire, and EMS communities. Our deepest condolences go out to the Schenck family, Tyler’s friends, and his fellow members during this incredibly difficult time.

Engine 1 has been standing by at Reserve while they operate at a Structure fire. Crews have been standing by since 3:15.

At 5:08 PM, the Newton Abbott FAST Team was requested mutual aid to the Windom Fire District for a large truck fire next to a building.

Hillcrest 9-1 arrived on scene and reported a large box truck with heavy fire showing from the cab, with two additional trucks exposed to the fire. Newton Abbott 6 responded and arrived first, immediately beginning suppression operations.

Windom crews secured a water supply, allowing firefighters to quickly establish a sustained attack. Due to the rapid response and coordinated efforts of the crews on scene, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original truck and prevent it from spreading to the exposed vehicles and nearby building.

Newton Abbott crews were placed back in service within the hour.

On August 8th at 4:48 PM, the Newton Abbott FAST Team was requested mutual aid to the Town of Holland for a working commercial structure fire on Route 16.

Rescue 3 responded with a crew that stood by as the FAST Team, ready to assist in the event a firefighter became injured, trapped, or otherwise required assistance inside the building.

The Rescue 3 crew remained on scene until the incident was stabilized and was placed back in service approximately one hour later.

At 11:37 p.m. last night, the Newton Abbott Fire Company was requested on mutual aid to the Big Tree Fire Company for a reported tractor-trailer fire next to a building.
Upon arrival, Big Tree Chiefs and the Hamburg Police Department determined that the fire involved a large pile of oily rags rather than the tractor-trailer. Due to the deep-seated nature of the fire, Newton Abbott Quint 6 arrived as the first-due truck company and positioned its aerial for master stream operations to assist with extinguishment.

The crew from Quint 6 operated on scene for approximately 90 minutes before being released from the incident and returning to service by Big Tree Command.
