We are grateful to Congressman Herb Conaway, MD of New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District for securing $1,325,000 for our HVAC upgrades. These funds will enable us to enhance our headquarters, making the space more efficient and healthier for our firefighters, allowing them to perform their duties better while serving the community. Due to excessive heat and Canadian wildfire smoke, Air Quality Index levels are expected to reach unhealthy levels, starting at an index of 150 or higher this evening. Avoid burning items, high-temperature indoor cooking such as broiling or frying, and limit outdoor exertion.

Last month, our fire division collaborated with the Colonial Volunteer Fire Company, Hamilton Professional Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Hamilton Fire Police, PNC Bank, and the American Red Cross New Jersey Region to promote fire safety and awareness. Free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms were provided to residents in a targeted area. During this one-day event, 65 smoke detectors and 19 carbon monoxide detectors were installed in 59 homes, benefiting 159 residents. Remember, only working smoke detectors save lives!

Vent-Enter-Search (VES) is a specialized fireground tactic used to quickly locate and remove victims from areas most at risk during a structure fire. Over the last two weeks, our members trained on proper VES techniques, emphasizing coordination, communication, and firefighter safety while conducting rapid searches in challenging conditions. This training was conducted on the site of the former Mercer Marine utilizing theatrical smoke to simulate real life conditions. Training like this helps ensure we are prepared when seconds matter most.
