June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Elder abuse affects millions of older adults each year and can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial abuse, and neglect.
One of the most powerful ways we can help protect older adults is by staying connected. A phone call, a visit, or simply checking in can help reduce isolation and ensure our neighbors feel supported, valued, and seen.
There are simple ways we can all make a difference:
👂 Listen: Take concerns seriously when an older adult expresses fear, confusion, or distress.
📞 Stay Connected: Regular visits, phone calls, and check-ins can help reduce isolation and increase support.
👀 Know the Signs: Watch for unexplained injuries, sudden withdrawal, poor hygiene, or unusual financial changes.
🤝 Offer Support: Ask how you can help and connect older adults to trusted resources.
💜 Speak Up: If you suspect abuse, neglect, or exploitation, don't ignore it.
At Interfaith, we believe every older adult deserves to age with dignity, respect, and the support of a caring community. Together, we can help create a safer, more connected community for older adults.
