🚨 SCAM ALERT: THE “WELLS FARGO” FRAUD INVESTIGATION SCAM 🚨
Imagine receiving a call from someone claiming to be with Wells Fargo, telling you that your bank account has been compromised. They sound professional, create a sense of urgency, and claim they are trying to protect your money.
Here’s how the scam works:
📞 The caller claims fraudulent activity has been detected on your account.
💵 The victim is instructed to withdraw cash from their bank.
📦 The victim is told to place the cash inside a box and seal it without touching the box to supposedly preserve “fingerprints” for an investigation.
🚗 A courier is then sent to pick up the box containing the cash.
🚩 LET THAT SINK IN! 🚩
Your bank is not going to send a stranger to your home to collect your cash for a fraud investigation. The story about preserving fingerprints is simply a tactic to make the scam sound legitimate.
🛑 REMEMBER THESE RED FLAGS:
🔴 Someone pressuring you to withdraw large amounts of cash.
🔴 Instructions to package your money for pickup by a courier.
🔴 Claims that your money is needed for an investigation.
🔴 Requests to keep the situation secret or avoid contacting your bank.
✅ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
• Hang up immediately.
• Do not withdraw or hand over your money.
• Never trust the caller ID alone.
• Contact your bank using the phone number on the back of your debit card or an official bank statement.
• Report suspected fraud to your local law enforcement agency.
💰 YOUR MONEY IS YOURS. NO LEGITIMATE BANK FRAUD INVESTIGATION REQUIRES YOU TO HAND YOUR CASH OVER TO A STRANGER.
