The Marion County Extension Office along with the Hamilton Fire Department will be hosting a First Aid / AED / CPR training. Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 2-4pm at the Hamilton Rec Center. If you just want to attend the training, there is no fee. If you want to become certified and receive a card, the cost will be $22.

Four staff members of Alabama Extension at Auburn University were recognized during the recent Auburn Author Awards for their work on the PARTNER Toolkit. Those honored include Assistant Director of Federal Nutrition Programs Katie Funderburk; specialists Mitch Carter and Ruth Brock; and Digital Marketing Specialist Beth Reeves.

Along with Jeffrey LaMondia, a professor in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, the group wrote and published the PARTNER Toolkit. An acronym, PARTNER stands for Promoting Active Routes and Travel with Need and Experience-based Resources. The online toolkit provides information, tools and tips for transforming ideas into real community improvements.

“The Thriving Communities team is honored to receive the Auburn Author Award for the PARTNER Toolkit,” said Brock. “Our team dedicated significant time, expertise and creativity to developing a resource that can support communities across Alabama — large and small. We hope the toolkit helps community members, organizations and elected officials create more vibrant, healthy, welcoming, walkable and bikeable communities.”

The Graduate School, the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research & Economic Development and Auburn University Libraries are responsible for the Auburn Author Awards program. The event recognizes Auburn employees who have published a book-length scholarly work in the previous calendar year. In all, 32 Auburn faculty and staff were recognized during the ceremony.
