Howdy folks. We were privileged to interview Iberia Upton and Garland Anglin, two life-long County residents who grew up during the Dust Bowl years of the 1930s and 40s. Fascinating memories of life then, including the monumental efforts to conserve soil at that time.

Hamilton County, Texas Historical Commission records accounts of local residents that recall memories of their upbringing in the 1930s, 1940s & 1950s touchin...

Howdy, Folks! Been a while, and I have a question for you. Does anyone have a photograph(s) of the Hamilton city airport when it was used as a glider training field during WWII? Or anecdotes? For example, I have heard that the Hamilton Sanitarium provided housing for the trainees. Sound familiar?

TOMORROW: Tune in for a free digital history program!

The significance and shape of the land now known as San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site has evolved over time. Prior to the battle that ended the Texas Revolution, this place was a frontier cattle ranch; in the aftermath, it was a bloody wreck. Between 1899 and the 1930s, the state acquired parcels of land for a historical park.

In an online program on March 15 at noon Central, experts from the San Jacinto Battleground and San Jacinto Museum will discuss how the site has changed over the last 150 years and what developments are ahead to continue interpreting it into the future.

Register for free: bit.ly/pastpresentsanjacinto. All registrants will receive a link to the recording of the program.

The two story dog run shown was northwest of Hamilton near the Leon River. Limestone below and frame above, it was the family residence of James Allen Eidson from the mid 1870s until the family moved to Hamilton around 1900.

The working, east side of Hamilton, pre 1911 (this may be before 1907, as railroad tracks are not evident). This is E. Henry St looking west toward the town square. Note the trestle bridge across Pecan Creek, St Mary's and the Presbyterian churches on the far horizon, and the large Bull Durham to***co sign on the warehouse. One of our favorites. You can find this and more historical photographs at historicalcommission.org, under the old photo tab.
