Nobody was injured in an accidental garage fire this afternoon on Bay Road. Thank you HFD!

At 1408 today NSR911 recieved a call reporting a fire in a detached garage at 861 Bay Road. Engine 1 responded and found a 3 bay garage with heavy fire in the left bay. A quick knockdown was made and extensive overhaul was conducted by E1's crew, Hamilton L4 and crews from Essex and Wenham. Bay Road was shut down due to a hydrant line across the road. Crews cleared at approx 1630. Thank you to HPD, Essex Fire, Wenham Fire, Beauport Ambulance and Rehab 5 on scene and Beverly & Topsfield Fire who covered Hamilton for the duration of the event. There were no reported injuries and a preliminary investigation indicates the fire was accidental.

The smaller 64-gallon recycling carts have arrived at Casella, and home deliveries are underway this week.

Casella crews will work down the request list and drop off carts throughout the week. If your small barrel hasn't arrived by trash day, please continue using your old recycling bin or the 96-gallon cart in the meantime. Casella will collect all recycling during the transition.

If you need to submit a new inquiry, contact the DPW at 978-626-5227 or email [email protected].

Hamilton MA Police Dept are asking anyone who may have video of the suspect vehicle (4-door sedan with a loud exhaust) involved in car break-ins between 3-5 a.m. on Sunday, please contact the department's detectives. 978-468-1212

In the early hours on Sunday morning, several vehicles in various parts of town, were broken into with numerous items taken or disturbed. The most affected areas were Forest St and the Rock Maple Ave/Meyer Rd neighborhoods. The vehicle used by the group was a 4-door sedan with a loud exhaust. We are asking anyone who may have additional video of the suspect vehicle involved between 3-5AM to please contact Hamilton Police Detectives. We are aware that Ipswich also had similar breaks during this timeframe and are working with them to try and identify the individuals responsible. As a reminder, we always encourage everyone to both lock your vehicles and not leave valuables inside them overnight. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

A Critical Drought Alert remains in place for Hamilton and mandatory water restrictions are in effect.

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has designated our region under Level 3 – Critical Drought conditions.

To protect the watershed and make sure there is enough water for firefighting, mandatory outdoor watering restrictions are now in effect.

All non-essential outdoor watering is strictly prohibited until further notice, including all types of lawn and garden sprinklers, automated devices, drip irrigation hoses, and hand watering unless essential.

These mandatory restrictions apply to all residents, including those using private wells.

Enforcement is conducted in accordance with Town By-law and G.L. Ch. 40, Sec. 21D. It is a $50 fine for the first offense and $100 for each subsequent offense. Each day of violation constitutes a separate offense.

Thank you for your cooperation. For full state drought guidelines and examples of acceptable water use, go to https://www.mass.gov/info-details/drought-status.

DPW and Casella Waste Systems are working to make sure the recycling barrel transition goes smoothly.

Missing Barrels: If you have not received a new recycling barrel at all, please contact the DPW at 978-626-5227.

Barrel Swap: Requests for small barrels exceeded Casella’s initial supply. A limited number of small barrels are being delivered this week, and another order will arrive in a few weeks. If you are waiting on a small barrel, please either use your new large barrel or continue using your old recycling bin.

Routes and Added Truck: Casella put a third truck on Hamilton routes during the transition period to pick up extra recycling. Pickups may run slightly later in the day than usual, but Casella is committed to collecting all items on scheduled days.

Thank you for your patience!
