The Veterans of Foreign Wars is proud to announce the 2026–2027 Patriot’s Pen & Voice of Democracy scholarship programs!

📝 This year’s theme:
“What a Veteran Taught Me About America”

These programs give students the opportunity to share their thoughts on patriotism, learn from the sacrifices of our veterans, and compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.

✔️ Patriot’s Pen – Open to grades 6–8 (essay)
✔️ Voice of Democracy – Open to grades 9–12 (audio essay)

Each year, students across the country compete for millions in scholarships while honoring the values that make our nation strong.

📅 Deadline: October 31, 2026
📍 Submit entries through your local VFW Post

Post family, I got a tough call yesterday from a member’s wife. She shared that her husband died by su***de on October 5, 2025.

There’s no perfect thing to say in moments like this. What I do know is the holidays can turn grief up loud, and a lot of folks carry more than anyone realizes. If you’re hurting, or you’re worried about a buddy, please don’t sit with it alone.

Reach out. Call someone. Message me. Knock on a door. We’d rather hear from you at 2 a.m. than hear about you after the fact.
