Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy

Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy Our mission is to provide a comprehensive array of training and professional development opportunities to child welfare staff and stakeholders.

The Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy was established in the Summer of 2014 and is housed at Southeastern Louisiana University. The Academy will ensure that child welfare staff and stakeholders will have a fundamental and common base of knowledge and skills necessary to effectively intervene within the child welfare system. The creation of the Academy offers an opportunity for comprehensive

training and education of child welfare practitioners across systems - child welfare, legal and community; it is a unique and a tremendous asset for the State of Louisiana. The Child Welfare Training Academy will strive to develop through training, coaching, and mentoring a community of professionals, para-professionals and caregivers with relevant knowledge, skills and expertise to effectively intervene with vulnerable children and families involved in Louisiana's child welfare system to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Every child deserves a safe and supportive environment, and mandated reporters play a vital role in making that possible.

The Mandatory Reporter online course equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect, understand their legal responsibilities, and respond appropriately when concerns arise. Participants will also learn how to make a report to DCFS, support a child who discloses abuse or neglect, and identify children who may be at greater risk.
