The Hammond Westside Montessori Upper Whirlwinds are excited to kick off another year of CharacterStrong! 💙💛

✨ Our August CharacterStrong User of the Month is Mr. Michael Graves! ✨

Mr. Graves had the highest CharacterStrong usage on our campus and led the most SEL lessons during the month of August! 🙌

So, what is SEL? Social-Emotional Learning helps students build skills like self-awareness, emotional regulation, responsible decision-making, empathy, and positive relationships—skills that support them both in and out of the classroom. 🧠❤️

We are so thankful for the teachers who make SEL a priority and help our students grow into confident, compassionate, and successful individuals!

We’re kicking off September 1 with our CharacterStrong Topic of the Month: RESPECT!

At Hammond Westside Montessori Upper, respect is more than just saying “please” and “thank you.” It’s about the way we treat ourselves, our classmates, our teachers, and our entire school community.

Throughout the month, our students will be learning and practicing what respect looks, sounds, and feels like on our campus:

💜 Listening when others are speaking
💜 Using kind and encouraging words
💜 Respecting differences and perspectives
💜 Taking care of our classrooms and shared spaces
💜 Following expectations—even when no one is watching
💜 Giving others the opportunity to learn and grow

With an incredible 95.07% attendance rate, 6th grade took the top spot for the month! To celebrate their hard work and dedication, 6th-grade students have earned a Free Dress Day this Friday, September 4th! 🥳👕👗

Here are the breakdown of the August Attendance Percentages across all grade levels:
• 6th Grade: 95.07% 🥇
• 4th Grade: 94.52% 🥈
• 5th Grade: 93.88%
• 8th Grade: 93.72%
