After several big floods over the past few years, we realized there was a need to do more for residents experiencing flooding across the city. Here are details on the Hammond Basement Backup Prevention Program!

The city/Hammond Sanitary District will reimburse you up to $2,000 to have a backflow prevention device installed. Along with that, the City of Hammond Community Development office will cover the remaining balance if you qualify based on the income guidelines.

🌎 2025 was a HUGE success thanks to all of you who showed up to safely dispose of hazardous household materials. Let’s keep that momentum going in 2026!

🚫 Reminder: Latex paint is not accepted at HHW events since it isn’t considered hazardous. Please hold onto any liquid latex paint and bring it to the end-of-year Latex Paint Recycling Event instead.

📣 Help us spread the word! So many people still have old chemicals, oil-based paints, cleaners, and other hazardous items but don’t know where to take them. These events offer a safe, free, and responsible way to dispose of them, let’s help get the information out to our community.
