So far in 2020 the National Guard has shown off three of their mission sets on the home front: 1) assisting citizens during a pandemic, 2) clean up/rebuild for national disasters, and 3) being called out to assist during riot control. The National Guard is very unique in that we are used more than any other military component on US soil. We assist and defend our own families and friends. This we’ll defend. Just wanted to congratulate the following individuals for making the choice to serve their nation and state by joining the Louisiana Army National Guard. Welcome Albany High School graduate Megan Ott, Kenneth Cooley, III, graduate of Mandeville High School, Senior Mikhail Thomas and Junior Konnor Kosa from Ponchatoula High School, and from Hammond High School, Senior Tayler Evans, Juniors Tania Granados and Thomas Mascair. They will be receiving 100% College Tuition Exemption as well as the GI Bill and Great Army training to assist them in their future career paths. Under the direction of Governor John Bel Edwards, we have activated over 94 Soldiers and Airmen so far, not to include full-time Guardsmen, to assist with the COVID-19 response, March 17. The number of Guardsmen activated and equipment utilized is anticipated to increase until the situation is stabilized.

The Louisiana National Guard has mobilized Guardsmen to support current operations, including medical support, engineering assessment support, shelter security, traffic control point support and provided liaison teams to Parish Emergency Operations Centers.
