Scammers are at it again!!!
π¨ SCAM ALERTπ¨
It seems these scammers are turning on the shenanigans again for summertime so TPSO is turning up the π₯heatπ₯ with this warningπ£οΈ
This week, scammers have been calling residents around our parish claiming to be one of our newest deputies (the nerveπ) demanding that the resident come to our office to pay IN CASH ONLY either outstanding warrants, a civil fine or a penalty fine for missing jury duty.
βΌοΈTHIS IS A SCAMβΌοΈ
TPSO does not call individuals to βclearβ warrants and does not collect fines over the phone. If you receive a call from someone claiming to work for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffβs Office and you are unsure if it is legit or not, the best practice is to hang up and call the Sheriffβs Office back at 985-748-3334 or 985-748-3328.
If you have outstanding warrants or tickets that need to be paid, you will be notified via mail service and will always have the opportunity to pay in person, in multiple ways.
#βοΈAnnnnd we've got one targeting relatives of inmates claiming to be from law enforcementπ An elderly victim got hit for $1300 this weekπ
It sounds a little something like this:
βοΈRΙͺΙ΄Ι’, RΙͺΙ΄Ι’βοΈ
"Hi there, this is Lt. Jane Doe with the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. ((ππ£π©ππ§ ππ£π’ππ©π'π¨ πππ’π πππ§π)) is booked here with us on ((π‘ππ¨π© π€π ππππ§πππ¨ ππ£π ππ€π£π ππ’π€πͺπ£π©)) and you have an opportunity to get them released on an ankle monitor if you send us money right now on Cash App/Venmo/Zelle."
βΌοΈππππ ππ π ππππβΌοΈ
βDO NOT RESPONDβ
The caller provides legitimate info about an inmateβs booking details (π΄π±π°πͺππ¦π³: π΅π©π’π΅'π΄ π’π·π’πͺππ’π£ππ¦ π§π°π³ π’π―πΊπ°π―π¦ π΅π° π΄π¦π¦ π°π― π°πΆπ³ π§π³π¦π¦ π»π·πΊπΆ πππ, π£π΅πΈ), making them sound convincing. πππ, know that the TPSO (and our law enforcement partners and neighbors) *ππππ πππ* call or text anyone regarding alternative methods of jail release. So just π©π’π―π¨ πΆπ±.
Lastly, itβs important to remember β Do not open an e-mail attachment from any unfamiliar source, and never provide personal information to an unfamiliar source, either by phone or e-mail.
Beware and help spread the word!
