June 10, 2026, City of Hammond, LA -- In the course of their investigation into the June 4, 2026 homicide at the Chevron at 3123 Highway 190 West, detectives with the Hammond Police Department Criminal Investigations Division have developed two persons of interest, Jarvis Steptoe, 26 years old of the Hammond area, and Reginald Steptoe, 21 years old from the Hammond area.

June 5, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – Through further investigation, detectives with the Hammond Police Department have identified a suspect vehicle in the June 4, 2026 homicide at the Chevron at 3123 Highway 190 West.

The vehicle is a white 2008 4-door Honda Civic bearing Mississippi License Plate PJY050. During the homicide, one of the suspects shot through the front passenger window of the vehicle and, as a result, the vehicle no longer has a front passenger window.

The vehicle was carjacked in Pike County, Mississippi, on June 2, 2026.

Anyone who sees or knows the whereabouts of this vehicle is advised not to approach and to contact the Hammond Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 985-277-5755 or call 911 immediately.

The suspects in the June 4, 2026 homicide are considered armed and dangerous.

June 4, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – At approximately 1:15 am on June 4, 2026, the Hammond Police Department responded to a reported homicide in the parking lot of Chevron, located at 3123 Highway 190 West.

Upon arrival, HPD officers located a female victim who had been shot multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reviewing security camera footage, officers observed a gray sedan parked at a gas pump along with a white sedan parked at a neighboring gas pump. The footage showed two suspects wearing dark clothing exit the front and rear passenger side of the white sedan. The suspects were armed with what appeared to be AR-style pistols and began firing at the rear passenger side of the gray sedan. The female victim was seated inside the gray sedan at the time.

The suspects then re-entered the white sedan while continuing to fire at the gray sedan before fleeing the parking lot westbound on Highway 190 toward I-55.

UPDATE:

June 10, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – On June 10, 2026, the victim, Kendrick Nixon Sr., 60 years old of Baton Rouge, died at North Oaks Medical Center.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.

May 27, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – On May 27, 2026, the Hammond Police Department responded to a reported shooting on Perry Lane.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Officers rendered aid until Acadian Ambulance Services arrived. The victim was transported to North Oaks Medical Center and is currently listed in stable but critical condition.
Witnesses identified the suspect as Kemlyn Lomas, 58 years old of Gonzales, who had left the scene. While detectives were investigating the incident, Lomas arrived at the Hammond Police Department to turn herself in.
After being advised of her Miranda rights, Lomas agreed to speak with detectives. Lomas stated that she confronted the victim at a residence on Perry Lane believing he was there with another woman. During the confrontation, Lomas stated a physical altercation occurred and she deployed a Taser on the victim. Lomas stated she then retrieved a firearm from her vehicle and during a struggle over the firearm, it discharged, striking the victim in the chest.
Kemlyn Lomas was charged with one count of Attempted Manslaughter, one count of Illegal Use of a Weapon, and one count of Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.

May 27, 2026, City of Hammond, LA -- Agents with the Louisiana Attorney General's Office Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), with the assistance of Hammond Police Department, took a HPD police officer into custody on May 27, 2026.

Both agencies had warrants for the officer’s arrest stemming from incidents involving alleged cockfighting activities with charges ranging from Misuse of State Computer Systems to Retaliation Against a Witness.

HPD was notified of the investigation and has fully cooperated with both HSI and LBI throughout this matter. The HPD officer has been placed on administrative leave and will proceed through the applicable Civil Service process.

Chief Bergeron stated that the Hammond Police Department has cooperated and will continue to cooperate with its state and federal law enforcement partners during the course of this investigation.

May 15, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – On May 8, 2026, the Hammond Police Department Narcotics Division, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division, and the Louisiana Division of Probation and Parole conducted a joint operation. During this operation, SWAT teams from each department executed multiple search warrants along Booker Road II in Hammond and Robertson Road in Tickfaw.

During these search warrants the following was seized:
Approximately 121 grams of suspected co***ne (powder)
Approximately 23.5 grams of suspected crack co***ne
Approximately 13 grams of suspected he**in
Approximately 66 grams of suspected fentanyl
Approximately 20 ounces of suspected kratom (powder)-
Multiple pills
2 suboxone films
Small amount ma*****na
Several fi****ms (one reported stolen)
Multiple items of drug paraphernalia
$39,355 US Currency

The search warrants also resulted in the following arrests and charges:
Alex "Big Al" Rogers, 46 years old of Hammond
- Possession with intent to distribute co***ne
- Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl
- Possession of crack co***ne
- Possession of suboxone films
- Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS
- 3 counts of convicted felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Illegal possession of a stolen firearm (pending)

Jessie "Pookie" Osby, 31 years old of Tickfaw
- Possession with intent to distribute crack co***ne
- Possession with intent to distribute fentanyl
- Possession with intent to distribute Oxycodone Hydrochloride
- Possession with intent to distribute Xanax
- Possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS
- Convicted felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession of drug paraphernalia

TPSO is currently searching for Jerome Rogers, 42 years old of Hammond, who is wanted on the following charges related to this investigation:
- Possession with intent to distribute co***ne
- Possession with intent to distribute crack co***ne
- Possession with intent to distribute he**in
- Possession with intent to distribute kratom
- Violation of parole

This operation owes its success to multiple agencies working together. The agencies took multiple drugs and fi****ms off the street—potentially saving many lives—and arrested multiple suspects who have lengthy histories with illegal narcotics. There will be more joint operations in the future.

May 14, 2026, City of Hammond, LA – The Hammond Police Department would like to inform the motoring public that on Monday, May 18, 2026, we will be participating in the Click It or Ticket campaign. This is part of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission grant to improve driver safety.

HPD officers will be conducting seatbelt checkpoints in the downtown area. The checkpoints will be conducted between late afternoon and early evening hours. We are giving ample warning to all motorists. We encourage every driver and passenger to wear your seatbelt and drive safely.
