We are pleased to announce that the Hampshire Fire Protection District has been awarded a $26,000 grant through the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal's FY26 Small Equipment Grant Program.

The grant will fund the purchase of a dedicated decontamination washer designed specifically for firefighter protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), helmets, gloves, facepieces, and other gear used by our firefighters.

This grant-funded purchase marks the beginning of the District's Firefighter PPE Compliance and Contamination Reduction Project. Research has shown that firefighters face increased occupational exposure to carcinogens and other hazardous substances during the course of their work. By improving the cleaning and decontamination of protective equipment, this investment will support our efforts to reduce contamination and better protect our personnel.

We appreciate the Illinois State Fire Marshal for its continued support of the fire service and for investing in programs that enhance firefighter health and safety.

Protecting our community begins with protecting the firefighters who serve it.

The last several days, your Hampshire Firefighters have been out training at a house on State St. Today Gold Shift was out all morning training on vertical ventilation, by climbing ladders and practicing cutting holes in a roof. Firefighters perform this function over the main body of fire in a structure to help ventilate all the smoke and hot gases to make it more tenable for the fire attack crews inside and any potential victims. After completing the vertical ventilation training, our crew worked with the ladder truck on proper positioning, of the vehicle and aerial ladder as well as using the platform on the ladder for victim rescue.
