🍂🚒 A great day for a parade!

The Hampshire Fire Protection District was happy to take part in Burlington’s Family Fall Fest Parade. We always enjoy getting out into the community and seeing so many families, friends, and neighbors along the parade route.

Thank you to everyone who waved and said hello, and to the organizers and volunteers who helped make the event possible!

🇺🇸 September 11 Remembrance Ceremony

Tonight, our community gathered at the Hampshire Fire Protection District to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to reflect on the courage, service, and sacrifice shown that day.

This year’s observance, marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks, included a Silent Parade through the community with apparatus from Hampshire Fire Protection District, Pingree Grove Fire Protection District, and the Burlington Community Fire Protection District.

Tonight’s ceremony included remarks from Mayor Mike Reid, Fire Chief Dave Schmidt, EMS Captain Sheri Stadie, Lieutenant John DePauw, and Firefighter Jenny Misner, with Deputy Chief Eric Larson serving as emcee.

The Fox River Valley Chapter NSDAR placed a wreath at the base of our 9/11 monument. A combined Honor Guard representing Hampshire Fire Protection District, Pingree Grove Fire Protection District, and Hampshire Police Department provided honors during the ceremony.

As the Silent Parade was preparing to begin at approximately 6:30 p.m., Hampshire firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire in our district. This briefly affected the start of the parade and may have caused some confusion for those who saw emergency apparatus leaving the area. Fortunately, the incident was confined to a barbecue grill, and remaining Hampshire apparatus filled the gap in the parade.

We apologize for any confusion and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. Even during a ceremony of remembrance, our responsibility to respond when someone calls for help continues.

We extend a special thank you to Pingree Grove Fire Protection District for providing coverage in our district during the ceremony, allowing our members to attend and participate while ensuring emergency response remained available to our community.

Thank you to our speakers, participating agencies and organizations, members of the Honor Guard, and everyone who joined us tonight to remember. We also thank Lorraine Matti for providing photos from tonight’s ceremony.

On Friday September 11th 2026, in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, the Hampshire Fire Protection District will be holding a solemn processional and ceremony to honor and remember the victims and first responders that perished in this terrible tragedy.

The processional will step off at 630pm, and follow the normal parade route in town:
Washington Ave, to State St.
State St. To Panama
Panama East to Warner
Warner to Washington ending back at the fire station.

This will be a solemn processional with lights, but no sirens. Please come out along the route and show your support.

Once back at the Fire Station, a ceremony will be conducted starting at or around 7pm.

Washington Ave will be closed between Ash and the Post Office for the ceremony.

Please join us at the ceremony, learn about the memorial at our station and join us as we pay respect and tribute as well as honor and remember those lost on that tragic day.

Celebrating an Important Career Milestone

Tonight, we were proud to recognize Firefighter/Paramedics Michael Mikolajski and Tyler Ott for successfully completing their probation with the Hampshire Fire Protection District.

Michael and Tyler’s journey with HFD began as part-time firefighters. In May 2025, both were hired as full-time members of the District and, that fall, began the challenging work of paramedic school.

In July, Michael and Tyler successfully completed paramedic school and passed the National Registry Paramedic examination—an accomplishment that also marked the completion of the final requirements of their probationary period.

At tonight’s Board of Trustees meeting, we had the opportunity to recognize both firefighters for reaching this important milestone.

Michael and Tyler have accomplished a great deal since first joining our organization, and we look forward to watching them continue to grow and serve our community in the years ahead.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter/Paramedics Michael Mikolajski and Tyler Ott on this well-earned achievement. We wish them continued success in their careers with the Hampshire Fire Protection District! 🚒

Sometimes the fire service is simply about being there for one another.

Late Saturday night, Hampshire Fire Protection District had the privilege of welcoming 13 members of Carrboro Fire-Rescue Department from North Carolina as they traveled more than 1,100 miles to Hayward, Wisconsin, to attend the wake and funeral of Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth.

Bryce, 28, spent more than four years serving with Carrboro Fire-Rescue before moving to Wisconsin with his family and joining the Eau Claire Fire Department just two months ago. Bryce died unexpectedly on July 26, and his death was deemed a line-of-duty death. He leaves behind his wife and two-month-old son.

The Carrboro firefighters were making a 20+ hour drive to Wisconsin. When we learned they would be passing through our area, we offered Station 2 as a place to get off the road for a while, grab something to eat, and recharge before continuing their trip.

Members of our Gold Shift were there to welcome them. We shared some food, some conversation and, most importantly, gave our brothers from North Carolina a place to decompress before continuing north.

There were no lights or sirens involved. No emergency. Just firefighters taking care of firefighters.

The fire service may span different departments, states and communities, but moments like this remind us that the family is much bigger than the name on the side of the apparatus.

We were honored to have Carrboro Fire-Rescue stop in Hampshire, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Bryce’s wife and young son, his family and friends, and the members of the Eau Claire Fire Department and Carrboro Fire-Rescue.

Rest easy, Firefighter Bryce Jungbluth. We’ll take it from here.

The Hampshire Fire Protection District is proud to have been recognized by the Illinois Public Risk Fund for its commitment to workplace safety and risk management.

This award reflects the work our members do every day—not a single event or accomplishment, but a consistent commitment to one another. Through ongoing training, attention to safe work practices, and a culture of continuous improvement, our personnel demonstrate that protecting each other is just as important as protecting the community.

While awards are appreciated, our greatest achievement is ensuring our firefighters and employees have the training, resources, and culture to return home safely after every shift.

Thank you to every member of the Hampshire Fire Protection District for your professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to serving our community safely.

This afternoon, the Hampshire Fire Protection District held our annual department picnic at Seyller Park. It was a great opportunity for current and retired members to come together, enjoy time with one another, and celebrate the dedication of our personnel.

As part of the afternoon, we held our annual awards ceremony to recognize members for their years of service to the District.

This last week, several members of Hampshire Fire Protection District attended various classes at the Firemanship Conference. With the main conference hosted in Aurora and hands-on classes held throughout the western and southern suburbs of Chicago, the event provided firefighters with outstanding opportunities to sharpen existing skills, learn new techniques, and exchange knowledge with firefighters from across the United States.

Investing in ongoing training and professional development helps ensure our members are prepared to provide the highest level of service to the residents and visitors of Hampshire.

Hampshire Fire was also honored to be requested and able to provide our Ladder Truck for one of the training sites. Tower Ladder 1431 was utilized at the Southern Kane County Training Center located in North Aurora for a ladder course called "The Dark Side of Ladders". Taught by the Magic City Truck Academy. This course focused on not only using and setting up ground and aerial ladders, but how to use our ladders and ladder truck to its full potential. It also taught firefighters to think "outside the box" in ways to use ladders.

A special thank you to Firemanship Conference, Magic City Truck Academy, Ladders and Irons LLC and Brothers in Battle LLC as well as the entire staff and volunteer team whose hard work and dedication made this exceptional event possible. We appreciate your commitment to advancing the fire service and creating an outstanding learning experience for firefighters from across the country.

On Tuesday evening, four members of the Hampshire Fire Protection District celebrated a significant milestone as they graduated from the Advocate Sherman Hospital Paramedic Program.

Please join us in congratulating:

• Mandy Stahulak

Over the past 11 months, these graduates completed an intensive program that combined classroom instruction with extensive clinical and field experience. Their training included hands-on experience in the emergency department, operating room, labor and delivery, intensive care unit, respiratory therapy, and other specialty areas, building the knowledge, skills, and judgment required to serve as paramedics. Advocate Sherman Hospital has been educating paramedics for more than 50 years, and graduating from its program represents a significant professional milestone.

Completing paramedic school is a tremendous accomplishment that reflects months of dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

Congratulations to Mitchell, Michael, Tyler, and Mandy on this outstanding achievement. We are proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to your continued service to the residents of the Hampshire Fire Protection District.
