💙 SCPD Lends a Helping Hand! 🚔
Sometimes, serving our community means more than enforcing the law—it means simply being there when someone needs a helping hand.
Officer Wyke recently stopped to assist a motorist who had a flat tire. He helped get the tire changed and the driver safely back on the road. 🛞🔧
It may seem like a small gesture, but these moments are what community policing is all about—serving, helping, and looking out for one another.

🚔 How Does SCPD Use LIDAR?
You may have seen SCPD officers using a handheld device along our roadways and wondered what it does. That device may be LIDAR!
🔦 LIDAR stands for Light Detection and Ranging. It uses laser technology to measure the speed of vehicles with a high degree of accuracy. Unlike traditional radar, which can measure multiple vehicles within an area, LIDAR allows an officer to specifically target an individual vehicle.
Why does this matter?
LIDAR helps our officers:
• 🎯 Identify the speed of a specific vehicle
• 🚗 Distinguish one vehicle from surrounding traffic
• 📏 Obtain precise speed measurements
• 🛑 Identify dangerous speeding and aggressive driving
• 🛡️ Support safer roadways for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and our community
Speed enforcement isn't about writing tickets—it's about changing dangerous driving behaviors and preventing crashes before they happen.
When you see SCPD conducting LIDAR enforcement, please slow down, stay alert, and drive for the conditions.

Yesterday, our students, teachers, and staff returned to school, and your Surf City Police Department was out greeting everyone in the drop off line with Chief Nas, Lt. Hartsfield, and our SROs Wyke and Kelley. 💙

Please remember to follow all traffic laws, slow down in school zones, stay alert for pedestrians and school buses, and give yourself extra time as everyone adjusts to the increased traffic and activity that comes with the new school year.

A few extra seconds of caution can make a lasting difference. Let’s work together to make getting to and from school safe for everyone! 🚸

🖤 SCPD Stands With JPD
The Surf City Police Department stands shoulder-to-shoulder with our brothers and sisters at the Jacksonville Police Department as they honor the life and service of Lt. Brown.
We extend our deepest condolences to Lt. Brown’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire JPD family during this difficult time. His dedication and service will not be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life for Lt. Brown will be held:

NC HWY 210 East has reopened

⚠️ The traffic signal at the NC Hwy 210 / Hwy 50 intersection remains inactive. Surf City Police Department will continue managing traffic at the intersection.

Please use caution and follow the direction of officers when traveling through the area.

TRAFFIC ALERT – NC HIGHWAY 210 CLOSED

**UPDATE**JOEMC crews continue working to repair the affected power lines. NC 210 East remains closed, and emergency personnel will remain on scene until the roadway can be safely reopened.

Please avoid the area, use alternate routes, and expect delays
NC Highway 210 is currently closed in the area of Watt’s Landing Road due to a traffic accident.
Due to the accident, power has been affected in numerous locations. Crews from the power company are actively working to restore power.

🔥 Fun Fact: His path of service started with fighting wildfires for the U.S. Forest Service, before serving 8 years active duty in the Navy and another 5 years in the Navy Reserve.
