As Kendall Etheridge wraps up her 10-week internship with Hampton Economic Development, we want to thank her for the enthusiasm, professionalism, and fresh perspective she brought to our team.

Throughout the summer, Kendall rotated through each of our department's key focus areas, spending two weeks with each team. She gained hands-on experience with grants and incentives programs, marketing initiatives, research and data analysis, regional meetings, business outreach, and even board-level presentations. Her curiosity, strong work ethic, and willingness to take on new challenges made her a valued member of our team.

Reflecting on her experience, Kendall shared:

"These past 10 weeks with the City of Hampton's Economic Development Department have been one of the most valuable experiences of my career so far. Every project challenged me to grow both personally and professionally while giving me a true understanding of what economic development looks like in practice. I'm incredibly grateful for everything the team taught me and invested in me this summer, and I'm excited to carry those lessons into my future career. I look forward to staying connected and watching Hampton continue to thrive."

It has been a pleasure getting to know Kendall, and we are proud to have been part of her professional journey. We wish her continued success as she returns to William & Mary this fall, and we can't wait to see all she accomplishes in the years ahead.

Thank you for an outstanding summer, Kendall!

Celebrating Black Business Month: Growing Together in Hampton!

August is Black Business Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the Black entrepreneurs, innovators, and business owners whose vision, resilience, and leadership help shape our community.

In Hampton, Black-owned businesses are more than places to shop—they create jobs, revitalize neighborhoods, inspire future entrepreneurs, and contribute to the city's vibrant economy. Every new storefront, expanding business, and local success story strengthens our community and helps make Hampton an even better place to live, work, and do business.

At Hampton Economic Development, we're committed to supporting businesses at every stage of their journey. Through workshops, networking opportunities, access to capital resources, technical assistance, and business development programs, we're working alongside entrepreneurs to help them start, grow, and thrive.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
- Shop Black-owned businesses
- Dine at local Black-owned restaurants
- Support Black entrepreneurs and service providers
- Share your favorite Black-owned Hampton businesses

When our local businesses succeed, Hampton grows stronger. Together, we're building an economy that is innovative, inclusive, and full of opportunity.

Happy Black Business Month! We look forward to celebrating the entrepreneurs who continue to make Hampton a place where businesses—and people—can thrive.

Some coffee shops serve coffee. Buckroe Coffee Co. serves community.

Just steps from Buckroe Beach, Buckroe Coffee Co. has become a place where neighbors gather, friendships are made, and everyone feels welcome. Whether you're meeting friends, grabbing breakfast with the kids, or holding a business meeting, you'll find more than great coffee—you'll find community.

One of their most popular drinks is The Jessa, a white chocolate latte topped with salted caramel cold foam, inspired by one of their loyal customers. Pair it with the Bacon on the Bay on a house-made croissant or try one of their new chicken salad sandwiches with Virginia-made, gluten-free Route 11 Chips!

What makes Buckroe Coffee Co. truly special is their heart for Hampton. Every purchase helps support community events, playgrounds, and neighborhood initiatives because they believe in pouring into people just as much as they pour coffee.

Their annual Noon Year's Eve celebration is a perfect example. What started before the shop was even fully open has grown into a beloved tradition where families, friends, and neighbors gather to celebrate together. It's proof that community has always been at the heart of everything they do.

When you support Buckroe Coffee Co., you're supporting a small business that's making a big difference in our community.

Stop by, grab your favorite drink, and experience what makes Buckroe Coffee Co. such a special part of Hampton.
