🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨
The Town of Hampton and Hampton Police Department want to remind residents to be vigilant about scam calls and text messages claiming to be from Medicare.
Scammers may contact you by phone, text, or email and claim that your Medicare benefits are changing, that you need a new Medicare card, or that you must verify personal information to keep your coverage active. Their goal is to obtain sensitive information such as your Medicare number, Social Security number, banking information, or other personal details.
⚠️ Remember:
• Medicare will not call or text you unexpectedly to ask for personal or financial information and they will not call you to schedule and in home visit.
• Do not provide your Medicare number, Social Security number, bank account information, or credit card information to anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.
• Do not provide your home address.
Do not click on links in suspicious text messages.
• Hang up immediately if a caller pressures you to act quickly or threatens loss of benefits.
• Verify any Medicare-related information through official channels before responding.
If you believe you have been targeted by a scam or have provided personal information to a suspicious caller, contact the Hampton Police Department (803-943-2421 or 803-943-9261) and report the incident immediately.
Please share this information with family members, friends, and neighbors—especially senior citizens who are often targeted by these scams.
Stay alert. Stay informed. Stay safe
