Beginning June 15, 2026, the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank is participating in the Summer Food Service Program to help ensure children across the Greater Peninsula have access to free, nutritious meals while school is out.

During the summer months, many children lose access to the breakfast and lunch they rely on during the school year. These meals will help bridge that gap by providing breakfast and lunch at no cost for all children 18 years old and younger at participating sites throughout the community.

Meals are served on a first come, first served basis and are available at multiple locations across the region.

Rain or shine, our community showed up in a big way!

On Wednesday, Virginia Peninsula Foodbank partnered with Nexstar Media Group, Inc. and WAVY TV 10 for their Founder’s Day of Caring.

This drive comes at a critical time as we head into the summer months, when food banks often see a decrease in donations. Community support is especially important right now to help ensure children and families have continued access to the food they need to thrive.

Despite passing rain showers, donors didn’t let up. By the end of the day, more than 3,000 pounds of food were collected and immediately distributed to our partner agencies for local families. With additional monetary gifts, the event helped provide over 15,000 meals.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, donated, and helped make an impact for our community.

A heartfelt thank you to our partners at Langley Federal Credit Union for your continued support of the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and our mission to fight hunger across our community.

Through generous sponsorships, volunteering, and grants, Langley has helped make programs like our Food Distribution Program, Kids Café Program, and Mobile Food Pantry possible. Our Food Distribution Program alone accounts for more than 70% of the food distributed from our warehouse, and Langley’s contribution has helped provide over 70,000 meals to neighbors facing food insecurity.

Because of partners like Langley, children have access to nutritious meals, families can put food on the table, and communities have greater access to the resources they need to thrive.

We are grateful for Langley’s commitment to creating stronger, healthier communities and are proud to continue this impactful partnership. Thank you for helping us nourish hope and change lives!

Summer should be about making memories—not worrying about where the next meal will come from.

When school meals pause, many children across the greater Virginia Peninsula lose a dependable source of nutrition. Virginia Peninsula Foodbank works alongside the Feeding America network and local partners to help ensure kids can access healthy meals throughout the summer months.

Every donation helps provide nourishing food that supports children's growth, learning, and potential. Join us in helping local kids and families thrive this summer.

Help nourish our community during WAVY-TV 10's Founder's Day of Caring Food Drive!

On Wednesday, June 10, stop by and donate nonperishable food items without ever leaving your vehicle. Simply drive through and our volunteers will collect your donation.

This drive comes at a critical time. With summer beginning, many children who rely on school meals during the academic year will no longer have access to breakfast and lunch at school. Your donation will help ensure children and families have access to nutritious food throughout the summer months.

Can't make it in person? You can still make a difference by making a financial gift through the link in our bio.

Every donation helps provide nutritious meals to children, families, seniors, and veterans across our community. Together, we can help ensure our neighbors have the food they need to thrive.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of long-time friend, beloved rock DJ, and champion of the Foodbank, Mike Arlo. Today we’re thinking of his family, co-workers, many listeners and friends, and remembering the powerful legacy he leaves behind.

Arlo was front and center for the very first 106.9 Mayflower Marathon food drive in 1997, fostering community spirit year after year across the Peninsula. The longevity of the Mayflower Marathon is due in large part to his joyful demeanor that inspired people to come out and give their time and resources to help our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. The tradition will celebrate its 30th year this November.

Arlo’s impact on the community is immeasurable. He provided the soundtrack to so many of our memories and helped fill holiday tables for thousands of families. Last year alone, the Mayflower Marathon raised enough food and funds to provide over one million meals across Hampton Roads.

We will miss hearing his memorable voice, listening to his great stories, sharing a coffee and donut with him, and seeing his signature thumbs up. His kindness and magnetic spirit will be felt by so many of us for years to come.
