With the large crowds that come to Hampton every 4th of July to celebrate our nation’s independence, safety is our #1 priority. The fireworks show is scheduled to shoot off on Monday night at 9:30 on the beach across from B and C Streets.

We have a few reminders for visitors this holiday:

1. Have fun! We hope that everyone comes and enjoys everything that the Town of Hampton has to offer. Hampton has great eating and drinking establishments, shops, arcades, hotels, concerts and shows, and a great beach! Come on down! We just respectfully ask that you do so safely!

2. Possession of or setting off personal fireworks is NOT permitted in the town of Hampton or on the beach.

3. Open containers of alcohol are not permitted in public spaces.

4. Be patient and give yourself some time while traveling into and out of the beach area. Traffic plans have been put into place to expeditiously clear the beach area out after the fireworks display. Ignore your GPS and follow the large variable message boards that have been set up to direct you to Route 1, Route 101, I-95, and I-93. Avoiding the traffic plan and attempting to circumvent the pattern will cause significant and unnecessary delays for everyone. Also, please be patient with other drivers. With many people looking to exit the beach area at the same time, we ask that you keep calm and reflect on the intent of the holiday and avoid arguing with fellow motorists.

5. Bicyclists are reminded to obey the rules of the road. Night time riding requires appropriate lighting and bicyclists must ride with the flow of traffic and obey all traffic safety devices. With heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic, bicycles can a pose a risk to the safety of the rider and others around them when they do not follow the rules of the road.

6. Pedestrians are reminded to use the numerous crosswalks to cross the street. Avoiding the crosswalks causes unnecessary risk to personal safety and causes vehicle traffic delays.

7. Please! DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE! Plan ahead. Celebrate with vigor but get home safely! Designate a responsible sober driver, call a cab, order a ride-share… whatever you do, please don’t risk your safety or the safety of others!
