Advanced Care in Action – April Recap

April was another busy month for our EMS crews, with several high-acuity calls where advanced training, rapid assessment, and teamwork made a significant difference for our patients.

🚑 RSI / Advanced Airway Management
Crews responded to a patient who suffered a serious head injury after falling down six steps and striking their head, resulting in a suspected traumatic brain injury (TBI). Due to the severity of the injuries, the patient was intubated using Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) prior to transport.

❤️ Symptomatic Bradycardia / Complete Heart Block
Crews treated a patient experiencing a dangerously low heart rate caused by a complete heart block. The patient required cardiac pacing before being transported for implantation of a permanent pacemaker.

🫀 STEMI / Heart Attack
Crews identified a STEMI heart attack within the first 2 minutes of patient contact using a 12-lead EKG. The patient achieved a door-to-balloon time of just 39 minutes and door-to-reperfusion time of 61 minutes, both well below the national standards of 60 and 90 minutes.

🦠 Advanced Sepsis Intervention
Just six days after receiving approval to operate under our Advanced Sepsis Paramedic protocol, crews treated their first qualifying patient. Bloodwork was obtained in the field and broad-spectrum antibiotics were administered before arrival at the hospital, helping provide early critical care for a severe infection.

These calls highlight the advanced level of care Hampton Fire Rescue provides every day and the importance of ongoing training, strong hospital partnerships, and rapid intervention in medical emergencies.

We are incredibly proud of our crews and their dedication to delivering high-quality emergency medical care to our community.

Today is National Bike to Work Day!

While we absolutely appreciate the idea and encourage healthy, environmentally friendly transportation… we’ve decided bicycles probably aren’t the best option for responding to fires and medical emergencies.

We’ll stick with the fire trucks and ambulances for now! 😉

Stay safe out there and share the road with cyclists today!

Please join us in welcoming our newest employee, Firefighter/EMT Joshua Moulton, to Hampton Fire!

Joshua officially started on Group 1 yesterday, May 18th, 2026, and will spend the next year learning what it takes to be a top-notch Firefighter/EMT serving the Hampton community.

Joshua grew up right here in Hampton and attended local schools, giving him a great head start when it comes to the geography and unique needs of our community. He now lives in town with his wife and their child, making this opportunity even more special as he serves the community he calls home.

We are excited to have Joshua join the Hampton Fire family and look forward to watching him grow throughout his career with us.

Welcome aboard, Joshua!

This week, May 17–23, 2026, is also National Public Works Appreciation Week and we'd like to celebrate our incredible Hampton Public Works co-workers!

This year’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” reflects perfectly the dedication and hard work our Public Works team brings to Hampton every single day. Whether it’s maintaining roads, managing drainage and sewer systems, collecting trash and recycling, or responding when our community needs them most, their work keeps Hampton running safely and efficiently.

We are grateful for the strong partnership we share with our DPW and thank each member for their professionalism, commitment, and service to Hampton.

Thank you, Hampton DPW, we appreciate all that you do!
