It's the night before the last day of school and I am so incredibly proud of the hard work the staff and students have put in at West Yadkin. Thank you families for all of your benevolence in letting us be a positive influence in your children's lives.

Tomorrow, we celebrate two incredible women whose impact on West Yadkin Elementary School will be felt for generations to come. 💙🦅

After decades of service, dedication, laughter, love, and unwavering support for children, we are honored to recognize the retirements of Mrs. Carrie Trivette and Mrs. Amanda Draughn.

Mrs. Carrie Trivette, a proud native of Yadkin County, has devoted her career to education and to the students of West Yadkin. A graduate of Appalachian State University, Carrie earned her degree in Elementary Education in 1995 and continued pursuing excellence throughout her career. She earned her National Board Certification as an Early Childhood Generalist in 2002, followed by a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2008 and a second master’s degree in Administration in 2012. During her time at West Yadkin, she impacted students across sixth, seventh, fifth, and second grades, leaving a legacy of strong instruction, leadership, and care for children.

Mrs. Amanda Draughn has spent 26 years serving the students and staff of West Yadkin with unmatched energy, creativity, and heart. Beginning as an ESL assistant, Amanda’s journey led her through many roles across our school, most notably in 1st grade, where she spent much of her career loving and supporting children. Beyond the classroom, Amanda brought joy and culture to our school community through talent shows, art festivals, cultural celebrations, “Christmas Around the World,” and even Flamenco dancing during our Spain cultural festival. Many students will forever remember her larger-than-life personality, her entertaining alter ego “Señora Loca,” and the joy she brought while reading to children and helping create unforgettable experiences for our students.

Both of these ladies represent what makes West Yadkin special. They have poured their hearts into this school and into generations of children and families. Their love, dedication, and influence cannot be measured.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Trivette and Mrs. Draughn on their retirements and thanking them for the incredible legacy they leave behind at West Yadkin. We are forever grateful for the countless lives they have impacted.

Once an Eagle, always an Eagle. 🦅💙

Friday, May 15, West Yadkin Elementary School had the honor of welcoming back our graduating seniors for one last walk through the halls where their journey began. And just as meaningful was having a former WYES teacher, and current Starmount teacher and coach, Dale Draughn, walk the halls once more as he prepares for retirement. It was such a special moment for our students and staff to celebrate these seniors and all they’ve accomplished. We are so proud of the Class of 2026 and can’t wait to see where life takes you next! 🎓💙

From Mrs. Boles and the West Yadkin Staff:

Happy National School Principals’ Day to our incredible leader, Mr. Pritchett!

West Yadkin is truly fortunate to have a principal who leads with heart, humility, and a genuine love for students and staff. Mr. Pritchett is the epitome of a servant leader—always willing to jump in wherever he’s needed, never afraid of a challenge, and constantly putting others first.

Whether he’s supporting staff, building relationships with students he cares for as his own, or simply brightening someone’s day with one of his famous jokes, he creates a school environment filled with positivity and care. His approachable nature and ever-present smile make a lasting impact on everyone who walks through the doors.

Thank you, Mr. Pritchett, for your dedication, your big heart, and for leading West Yadkin with such passion and purpose. We appreciate you today and every day!

We’ve got some exciting news to celebrate at West Yadkin! 🎉

We are proud to share that several of our teachers have been selected as winners of the Creative Classroom Grant from the Shallow Ford Foundation!

First grade teacher, Mrs. V. Brown was selected as a recipient of a grant, as well as a grant for Mrs. C. Brown, Mrs. Matthews and Mrs. Wright for their “One School, One Book” request!

These grants open the door to innovative, engaging learning experiences for our students, and we couldn’t be more excited about the possibilities they bring into our classrooms. From hands-on projects to creative instruction, this support will make a real difference for our Eagles.

We are incredibly thankful for our partnership with the Shallow Ford Foundation and their continued investment in public education and our community.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day to two of the very best!

Today, (and everyday) we want to recognize and celebrate Marleny and Tracy for everything they do for West Yadkin.

Marleny keeps our financial world running while also serving as one of the first friendly faces families, students, and visitors see when they walk through our doors. From managing budgets and paperwork to handling the nonstop needs of the front office, she does it all with patience and care.

Tracy keeps us organized behind the scenes as our data manager while also helping keep the front office running smoothly each day. From schedules, student information, reports, and a thousand unexpected tasks in between, she helps make sure everything stays on track.

The front office is often the heartbeat of a school, and these two keep ours beating strong. They juggle countless responsibilities, solve problems before most of us even know they exist, and do it all while supporting our staff, students, and families every single day.

West Yadkin is better because of both of you. Thank you for your hard work, your flexibility, and the care you show our school community. We appreciate you more than you know! 💙🦅

Have a wonderful Easter weekend, from Mr. Pritchett (not pictured), Mrs. Boles, and all of the WYES staff!

đź’™ Happy School Social Worker Week! đź’™

This week we want to give a very special shoutout to someone who does so much for the students, families, and staff of West Yadkin Elementary — Mrs. Maggie Brown!

Mrs. Brown works tirelessly behind the scenes every day to support our students and families. Whether it’s helping a child through a difficult situation, connecting families with important resources, supporting our teachers, or simply being a caring and trusted adult for our students, she is always there when our school community needs her most.

Her compassion, dedication, and heart for kids make a difference in ways that often go unseen, but they are felt by so many here at West Yadkin. We are incredibly grateful to have her as part of our Eagle family.

Please join us in thanking Mrs. Brown for all she does to support our students and community.
