Last week, the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship organized a hike at KLT's Paavola Wetlands Nature Area, led by Linda Belote, a longtime friend and supporter of KLT.

Linda's late husband, Jim, took care of Paavola Wetlands for many years, serving as an excellent steward of this nature area. Site stewards like Jim develop a special connection to a piece of land over time—and a deep knowledge of what makes it special. Linda has spent many years hiking the trails Jim cared for, so these hikers truly got a unique perspective on Paavola Wetlands. 💚

As we all know, the best stories start with a great setting, and a bit of imagination.

At KLT, we are lucky to work with willing landowners to protect so many special places. Lands that become the settings of stories passed down through generations.

Lands like this one: A stretch of Lake Superior shoreline nestled between Horseshoe Harbor and High Rock Bay in Keweenaw County, where waves lap over billion-year-old Copper Harbor Conglomerate.

Thanks to the generosity of the Trudell family, KLT has the opportunity to protect this ancient shoreline through a bargain sale. We invite you to imagine a future where this land is protected for conservation and your future adventures, in perpetuity.

Happy ! Looking for a fun way to show your furry friend some love today? Head on over to KLT's Paavola Wetlands Nature Area, where our stewardship team has put up a special story trail featuring dog artwork and illustrations from around the world. While your pup enjoys the smells, you can enjoy art inspired by our fun, quirky, loyal four-legged friends.

National Dog Day celebrates all types of dogs, from purebred to mixes, rescues, service dogs, and more—and helps raise awareness of how many dogs are in need of rescue.

Enjoy the trails and the art! Please remember:
🐾Keep your dog leashed and under control—not everyone is as fond of your furry friend as you are (including many rescues who have difficulty with other dogs!)
💩Please clean up after your dog for the sake of nature and other trail users
💚Consider choosing adoption and supporting our local shelter, Copper Country Humane Society
